A successful Investigator will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or two years related experience and/or training; and four plus years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Advanced proficiency or bilingual fluency in Spanish required.
  • Previous experience as a Human Resources Generalist or Manager is strongly preferred. Must have solid knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing investigations and related personnel matters. Demonstrated expertise working with law enforcement and outside partners in the security and investigation space to properly investigate and close cases to protect company, employee and customer interests.  Must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical and non-technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to recognize and define problems; gather sophisticated data and analyze it; establish facts; and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to present findings and support the decision-making process in an objective manner by producing comprehensive and critical reports or presenting facts to executives verbally.  Ability to respond effectively to – and interact with – all levels of organizational staff, including executives.
  • Competencies include excellent presentation/facilitation, organizational, analytical, reasoning, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.  Requires high level computer expertise, including use of database, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Unquestionable integrity, confidentiality and professionalism in a wide variety of situations.  Must be flexible, innovative and composed in a fast paced, growth-oriented and time-critical environment. 
  • Ability to multi-task and balance a demanding caseload while managing time effectively and appropriately identifying areas on which to focus energy and time.  Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

The Investigator’s primary responsibilities are to manage and lead in-depth and sometimes complex investigations of reported, alleged or suspected workplace violence, theft, sexual misconduct, or other potentially serious violations of policies or law. Individuals in this role are also responsible for coaching and mentoring HR and Operations on multiple types of investigations – including those with internal and external elements.  The role also requires the ability to analyze sophisticated information, develop valid fact-based conclusions using a variety of resources and techniques, and present findings to all levels of management and leadership.  The Investigator works with moderate guidance to coordinate a caseload and the activities of numerous other fact-finders and management teams.

 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Manages multiple types of Employee Relations (ER) investigations – including workplace violence, sexual misconduct, theft, and code of conduct, among other types.  Conducts thorough, professional and efficient interviews of those individuals accused of violations, witnesses, and reporting persons to obtain key facts for proper decision-making.
  • Ability to multitask caseload with administrative and coaching aspects of the role.
  • Utilizes case management system and other company tools and resources to document findings and evidence. Crafts communications, including documentation, that are accurate, concise and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Assumes control of high stress, sensitive situations.  Ensures that all investigations/inquiries are completely objective and brought to a logical conclusion in the best interest of the Company.
  • Develops and maintains a professional working relationship with Field HR, Operations, senior leadership and the legal department to facilitate a collaborative recommendation on outcome.   Often acts as single point-of-contact with law enforcement in cases involving employees or customers.  Understands the laws and statutes that have an impact on methods used in successful investigations, and is able to make well-rounded recommendations based on this experience.
  • Reviews investigatory notes completed by others and assesses objectivity, fact-finding methods, level of preparation required for closure, and the presentation of findings.  Documents, stores, and maintains evidence according to the chain of custody guidelines.
