Job Overview:

 

This state-of-the-art direct-to-consumer fulfillment center is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the “Safety Specialist” position.  This is a promotional opportunity.

 

Essential Functions:

 

• Act as First Responder to work related and non-work related issues.

• Assist with coordination of Safety Committee Meetings and serve as permanent member.

• Conduct bi-monthly internal building safety audits as directed.

• Conduct OSHA required training for all associates as needed and determined by the OHS Mgr.

• Assist in the development of required safety training programs in conjunction with the OHS Mgr.

• Coordinate and Train for material handling equipment program including tracking annual drug screen testing, training, etc.

• Coordinate and track all hours for powered equipment incentive programs and completes follow ups as needed.

• Responsible for observation of material handling equipment operators and determining safety training needs on ongoing basis.

• Spends majority of shift on floor observing and coaching safe work practices/material handling skills.

• Prepares MHE trends and corrective action reports for Safety Review Board Meetings.

• Complete entry of training, audits, and accidents in Safety Measurement System with strict attention to detail including timeliness and accuracy.

• Participate and assist in coordination of various Macy’s safety initiatives and programs.

• Conduct required monthly inspections per Macy’s policy (i.e. fire extinguisher).

• Prepare and assist OHS Manager in preparation and follow up for full facility audits and Loss Reduction Index audits.

• Conduct and participate in accident investigations and follow-up on recommendation with departments at the direction of the OHS Manager.

• Assist OHS manager with safety initiatives/motivation programs, etc for 2nd shift as needed.

• Serve as safety “go-to” person in absence of OHS Manager.

• Serve as a facility trainer during peak season for both safety and production.

• Any other function management deems essential.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

 

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Distribution center experience preferred

• Medical First Responder (First Aid, CPR, AED certified)

 

 Systems/Technology:

 

• Computer literate, willing to learn the Macy’s Safety Measurement System

• Proficient in MS-Office applications (Word and Excel)

 

Communication Skills:

 

• Ability to understand and communicate directions in the FC regarding Standard Operating Procedures and security & safety guidelines

Meet accuracy and productivity standards.

 

Mathematical Skills:

 

• Basic math functions and analytical skills.                             

 

Reasoning Ability:

 

• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to make independent decisions and sound decisions within proper policy and procedure guidelines.

 

Physical Demands:

 

• Ability to lift 50lbs repetitively

• Operate powered equipment and work at heights

• Willing to be certified as a trainer for material handling equipment

• This position involves regular walking, standing, hearing, and                            

talking.
