PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plan, implement and supervise project safety, accident and fire protection programs in project sites (demolition hazardous waste abatement sites.) in compliance with corporate safety program standards. This position requires extensive vehicle travel. (60-70%), overnight stays, and exposure to demolition and abatement sites.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1. Identify and Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and contacting supervisory personnel.

2. Supervise and administer safety/first aid and rescue squad activities including work assignments, personnel administration, staffing, training, etc.

3. Assist corporate program by developing employee and craft safety orientation training program and implement upon completion.

4. Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests for confined space entry, property damage and personal injury investigations.

5. Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities. Issue confined area entry and "hot work" permits as required.

6. Review documentation to insure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures, and implement appropriate corrective action as required.

7. Accompany all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through tours. Coordinate/assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.

8. Spanish speaking and/or writing skills are a big plus.

9. Additional assignments per Construction Manager's or corporate Department Head's direction.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Educational and experience requirements include: Four year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience. At least 5 years construction and/or industrial safety experience. Must have strong knowledge of Demolition. Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company regulations. Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential. Good interpersonal and communication skills required. Must have 30 Hour construction safety Course (OSHA 501), 40 hour HAZWOPER

COMMENTS:

Usually primary safety person on project. May supervise other safety and medical personnel based on size and scope of project. Reports to Corporate Safety Director and President/CEO
