About this job

Job Description: A Service Technician diagnoses and maintains diesel tractor operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; and keeping records. All duties are done with a high priority on safety. A Service Technician for TEC Equipment is responsible for delivering a customer experience in the Service department that ensures TEC is truly recognized as our customers' Best Business Partner.

Keep equipment available for customer use by completing preventive maintenance schedules and DOT/BIT inspections
Diagnose and correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and/or replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
Verify vehicle performance by conducting or arranging test drives
Demonstrate an understanding of federal and state maintenance compliance requirements, including requirements of DOT and BIT
Use computer applications to note all aspects of services and repairs; Provide a full evaluation of unit condition and annotate observations in computer applications
Communicate frequently with Service Advisor and/or supervisor as directed to update on time line of repairs
Follow core and warranty return guidelines; understand how branch contains costs by using warranties and evaluating service & parts options
Follow branch's safety and standard operating procedures, and OSHA regulations, with limited supervision
Help management keep shop equipment operating by cleaning up after all jobs, returning tools and equipment to proper place, following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns/notifying supervisor of broken equipment, and maintaining supplies
Attend training & departmental meetings and be willing to attend Trade Shows and Conferences if requested by management to stay up to date on company changes, industry trends and technological advances
Exhibit a thorough understanding of the heavy-duty trucking industry and of all offerings of TEC in order to facilitate clear communication throughout the entire customer experience and provide customized business recommendations
Work Environment: Safety is number one. Very flexible environment, they work on many different things.

Clean shop, air conditioned shop. 3 techs on leasing team, about trailer technicians. Very teamwork oriented. Bilingual environment. This is very different than Freight companies. This is more production driven and they work for customers.
Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent
* Postsecondary diesel engine repair training program completion preferred
* 1+ year heavy-duty diesel repair experience; 3+ years' experience preferred
* Demonstrated expertise in identifying parts and components of diesel truck engines, transmissions, and braking mechanisms; Proven ability to disassemble, work on, and reassemble diesel truck parts and machinery; Ability to identify mechanical and electronic problems, make repairs, and offer a proper maintenance strategy
* Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area; Ability to stay focused in a busy work area
* Familiarity with electronic control systems and the appropriate tools needed to fix and maintain them
* Intermediate computer skills in order to accurately enter data into computer applications; intermediate keyboarding skills in order to enter descriptions of work done for customer's documentation
* Ability to explain verbally in English and write clearly in English about work done on vehicles
* Ability to work with a priority on safety at all times; Ability to follow instructions & checklists and adhere to branch's standard operating procedures
* Strong active listening and problem solving skills
* Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude in fast-paced environment and act as a team player
* Ability to obtain forklift certification (through in-house training)
* Commercial Driver License within 6 months of hire strongly preferred
