Position Summary:

Perform strategic sourcing functions for enterprise categories to reduce spend and increase revenues. Identify opportunities and create strategies that deliver value to the organization through developing competition, e-Sourcing functions and negotiating agreements. Essential Job Functions:

• Identify opportunities and lead efforts to develop sourcing strategies that optimize savings through partnering departments
• Develop a project baseline that accounts for all necessary specifications (material, performance and service); develop a sourcing strategy by evaluating both current specifications and alternatives
• Define the scope and strategy for initiatives; lead the design/development of strategies and oversee subsequent execution
• Identify and manage cost drivers and analyze life cycle costing challenges
• Incorporate various supply chain options when evaluating bid scenarios
• Develop and approve new suppliers/products to maintain competitive and diverse supplier/product base
• Communicate with business owners to develop alignment, gain commitment to overcome challenging situations and take advantage of opportunities
• Lead cross-functional teams and hold team members accountable for their role in developing/executing the sourcing strategy
• Prepare and oversee the preparation of RFx’s
• Utilize and help train team members in the use of e-Sourcing tools and Kroger purchasing systems
• Ensure contract terms accurately represent commercial intent and appropriate company protections
• Remain current with marketing trends, monitor the condition of markets and evaluate alternative products and new technologies to maximize their value to Kroger
• Evaluate supplier operations, production, packaging, shipping, and fulfillment to ensure operations can support business requirements
• Mentor and provide leadership to senior level associates

Minimum Position Qualifications/Education:

• 3 years of experience writing/preparing/processing/executing bids - RFX (Level 9)
• 4 years of experience writing/preparing/processing/executing bids - RFX (Level 10)
• 5 years of experience writing/preparing/processing/executing bids - RFX (Level 11)
• Ability to successfully manage and deliver savings for less complex categories (Level 9 and 10)
• Demonstrated success delivering and managing complex categories (Level 11)
• 5 years of experience negotiating contracts and working with Supply Chain management, Procurement and Sourcing teams (Level 11)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
• Ability to multi-task with good organizational/prioritization skills
• Ability to make critical decisions with limited supervision
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Desired Previous Job Experience/Education:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in supply chain management or a related field
• Store management, merchandising, economics and/or market trend analysis experience
• Certified purchasing manager and/or food safety certification
• Category management or replenishment buying experience
• Ability to understand/read engineering drawings/specifications and complex manufacturing processes
