Business Intelligence Analyst
JOB SCOPE:
Responsible for the development and support of reporting and dashboards supporting various Integrated Retail initiatives. This role is expected to leverage data housed within several unique databases and servers to create comprehensive reporting that identifies performance trends and opportunities. Reporting Dashboards should include an executive summary with drill down to the individual store and associate where applicable. Automation should be utilized to support most of these dashboards. Some initiatives will require adhoc support via Excel.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for working with the business operating units and guiding them in leveraging Information Technology data resources. This position will be responsible for the development, coding, testing, and validating of business intelligence extracts to be used by the business for operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making. This position will also provide analysis of the results, present results and recommendations to management, create automated reports and dashboards leveraging Tableau, MicroStrategy, Looker, and other visual presentation software and assist in the implementation of identified process improvements. This individual is responsible for supporting multiple projects and undertaking technical development to ensure accurate and consistent presentation and interpretation of Integrated Retail business data. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality of the data extracted from the data warehouse and represented in all business intelligence deliverables.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs as an individual contributor in the development and support of reporting dashboards and analytic presentations
  • Works with Integrated Member Experience (IMX) management to identify business modeling and reporting needs and prioritize work as appropriate
  • Translates business project needs into models used to verify or invalidate the objectives
  • Provides guidance in converting models to operational systems for approved projects
  • Provides analytical guidance and interpretation to IMX leaders as needed.
  • Acts as chief Data Architect/Database Administrator for any locally housed server data
  • Acts as chief Data Steward for data quality of the Business Intelligence Data
  • Interface with the Member Technology & Business Intelligence teams to ensure ongoing access to corporate data sources and tables needed to support ongoing reporting efforts
  • Manager interface
  • Creates and maintains Data Dictionary, including business rules and calculation methodologies for derived fields
  • Optimizes queries and Extract Transform and Load (ETL) packages through database indexing and other optimization techniques
  • Takes responsibility for full life cycle of creating data models, which include gathering requirements, generating queries and Structured Query Language (SQL) stored procedures, validating data, analyzing data for specified business goals, publishing a documented model to the concerned parties, and following up on decisions when the business decides that a project to implement recommendations shall be undertaken
  • Creates and updates SQL stored procedures used to drive data integration and reporting
  • Creates, updates and documents reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Creates, updates and documents reporting models to be used with SSRS Report Builder
  • Creates, updates and documents dashboards using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), HTML, and Looker
  • Creates, updates and documents data mining models using SSAS
  • Creates, updates and documents ETL packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Completes data validation of all new and existing reports, models and dashboards
  • Takes responsibility for workflow, prioritization, and tracking of multiple projects
  • Delivers Business Intelligence throughout the enterprise using a variety of BI platforms including Tableau, Looker, and HTML coded Outlook Emails
  • Sets an example of professional performance and analytical expertise
  • Provides end-user training on dashboard, reports, and models
  • Produces accurate technical documentation of all projects, including project specifications and testing documentation
  • Performs ad hoc reporting and analytical review as requested

  • REQUIRED SKILLS:
    • Knowledge of data architecture and database administration
    • Knowledge of Microsoft query and analysis programs, including Microsoft SQL Server; Microsoft Office (Excel, Access and SharePoint); Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS); and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and Multidimensional Expressions (MDX)
  • Knowledge of data visualization software and programs including Tableau, Looker, and HTML* Excellent communication and presentation skills (both oral and written)

  • PREFERRED SKILLS:
    • Bachelors degree with 1-3 years of experience with Business Intelligence. (e.g., MIS/Computer Science). Business Intelligence Certifications preferred but not required.
