Security Dispatcher Required Skills

Skills required to become a Security dispatcher, such as the ability to operate various computer and communication equipment, usually are learned through 3-6 months of on-the-job training. Personal characteristics that might be advantageous for Security dispatchers include good judgment skills, since they need to prioritize the calls they receive by order of importance, as well as good communication skills, since they must relay information between parties. They also must have good speaking skills and be comfortable talking to people in various emotional states. Security dispatchers should be comfortable reading maps and be familiar with their assigned tasks. It's also helpful for Security dispatchers to be trained in emergency medical services so they can help callers manage emergency situations while they're waiting for help to arrive.

Security Dispatcher Job Duties

Security dispatchers receive service and emergency calls by telephone, radio system or emergency call button. They question callers to obtain the information needed to determine an appropriate course of action. They also must create and maintain logs of all calls received and prepare reports as necessary. Experienced Security dispatchers will assist in training new dispatchers.

Security Dispatcher Responsibilities

Security dispatchers are assigned to receive calls and requests for service. They're responsible for determining the nature of the calls they receive, as well as the location of the callers. They also are responsible for monitoring the location of emergency service personnel. Using this information, Security dispatchers direct the appropriate type and number of emergency service units to emergency scenes. Security dispatchers must maintain communication with the dispatched units to monitor their response, in addition to maintaining communication with callers to monitor emergency situations and give first-aid instructions if necessary

Job Duties and Tasks for: "Dispatcher"

1) Schedule and dispatch workers, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs, using radios or telephones.

2) Arrange for necessary repairs in order to restore service and schedules.

3) Relay work orders, messages, and information to or from work crews, supervisors, and field inspectors using telephones or two-way radios.

4) Confer with customers or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.

5) Prepare daily work and run schedules.

6) Receive or prepare work orders

7) Oversee all communications within specifically assigned expectations.

8) Monitor personnel and/or equipment locations and utilization in order to coordinate service and schedules.

9) Record and maintain files and records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and other dispatch information.

10) Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required according to work orders or specifications.

11) Be proficient with all procedures and equipment associated with the Security Dispatcher position and the Security Dispatch control center

12) Advise personnel about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards.

13) Order supplies and equipment, and issue them to personnel.

14) Participate in shift turnover meetings to assure a clear understanding of the workload and daily/weekly expectations

15) Participate in the LPS program

  3. Attend stewardship meetings
  4. Identify NLI’s and report

Job Description

Allied Universal Services is currently searching for a Professional Security Officer.

The Professional Security Officer is the heart of Allied Universal Services. Our officers allow us to accomplish our company’s core purpose which is “to serve, secure and care for the people and businesses in our communities”. The Professional Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the facilities they protect. Our security officers act as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions; they detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts which may be a threat to the property, clients, guests or employees at the site. Although essential activities may differ based on the facility at which they work, below are some of the standards:
  • Ensure the facility is provided with high quality security services to protect people and property
  • Report safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing
  • Build, improve and maintain effective relationships with both client employees and guests
  • Answer questions and assist guests and employees
  • Answer phones or greet guests / employees in a professional, welcoming manner
Physical and Mental Functions:
  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
  • Run as needed
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
Qualifications/Requirements:

Qualified applicants for the Professional Security Officer position will meet the minimum requirements, as described below:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Guard License as required in the state for which you are applying
  • As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • As a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active status of all required License at all times, and must carry the license at all times while on duty
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Remain flexible to ever changing environments; adapt well to different situations
  • Intermediate computer skills to utilize innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard;
  • Neat and professional appearance
