We invite applications for Food Safety Assistant for Hill's Pet Nutrition in the Bowling Green, KY manufacturing facility.

Food Safety Assistants maintain and improve plant cleanliness and sanitation by meeting or exceeding standards to ensure product safety at all levels of operation including cleaning and sanitation procedures, HAACP requirements, documentation, and cGMP standards. This entry level position serves as part of a talent pool from which Full Time Operations Technicians can be developed and selected.

Basic responsibilities are:
  • Cleans and sanitizes equipment throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Meet weekly as part of the Quality Systems Team to discuss quality issues and address problem areas.
  • Execute issue resolution on shift as appropriate.
  • Assist in creating, implementing, and training sanitation standard operating procedures to cross functional teams
  • Perform cleaning verification using the ATP unit - understand action limits, record and apply corrective actions based upon results
  • Cleaning chemical safety and handling- understand and utilize chemical control log, dilutions of cleaning agents, use and rotation of sanitizing agents, chemical titrations, and chemical inventory recording.
  • Assist in performing gap assessments, root cause analysis, and corrective & preventive to nonconformance related to cleaning and sanitization
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary work area (requires sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, shoveling, and pushing)
  • Understand cleaning and sanitizing color coding of tools, equipment, and utensils.
  • Accountable for meeting or exceeding safety standards according to the published Hill’s Safety Policy at the Bowling Green plant
  • Understand and comply with Hill’s policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety. Identify and report Food Safety issues to management
  • Participates on other cross-functional teams as required
Basic qualifications:
  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing environment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work with cleaning chemicals in non-temperature controlled environments
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, bend to 90 degrees repeatedly, squat and lay prone to the floor for extended periods
  • Must be able to work any shift, weekends and mandatory overtime as needed
  • Proficient with computers, software, and data processing
  • Demonstrated competency of Attention to Detail, Work Standards, Initiative and Managing Work
Preferred qualifications:
  • Technical college/vocational school certificate or Associates degree in related field highly preferred
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Food safety experience a plus
  • Previous manufacturing work team experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in problem solving/decision making, effective communication, results oriented, and job fit motivation.
