Job Summary:  

The Lift Electrician Technician is responsible for electrical systems on the Heavenly Gondola and will have additional responsibilities for California and Nevada Lift Electrical operation. Additionally, this person may also be responsible for electrical systems in lodges, shops, surface lifts, chairlifts and tramways in the form of Maintenance and Construction of various electrical and electronic systems throughout the facilities.

 

Additional Information:

The position requires heavy lifting, working in a variety of locations, working in ditches and climbing towers to 130’.  The employee must be able to follow instructions in both written and oral form and complete work following established safety procedures and applicable rules, regulations and laws.  Often, the work is done in extreme weather at all hours. Unscheduled hours is expected, especially during mission-critical outages.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must have knowledge of NEC, be able to correctly interpret and implement code requirements.
  • Must understand and implement electrical safety, knowledge of NESC-C2, NFPA-70E,70B, 77, 111, and ANSI B77.
  • Must be able to complete installation of underground conduit assemblies utilizing PVC or metal conduit including pull boxes and vaults for control and power distribution circuits.  Must be able to complete wire and cable installation by various pulling and placing methods and procedures.
  • Must be able to complete start-up and checkout of all lifts and auxiliary switchover procedures.  Must be able to train lift personnel in the proper and safe operation of these lifts under electrical or auxiliary modes.
  •  Must possess suitable skills to complete various electrical tasks such as: minor soldering, wire stripping and termination, circuit breaker and switch installation, changing ballasts and light bulbs, installing fittings and connectors on conduit, EMT conduit bending and strapping, interpretation of drawing and making connections using wiring diagrams.  Must be able to check drawings for accuracy and safety.  Should be able to work out solutions to errors in wiring diagrams.  Must possess knowledge of latching relay circuits and complex relay logic.  This also includes skills that will allow the employee to complete load and power distribution centers up to 200A.
  • Must possess adequate electrical/electronic knowledge and training to receive and understand instructions when working with others within the electrical department. This includes the use of a Volt-Ohm Meter, oscilloscope, and other complex test equipment.
  • Must have adequate knowledge of and ability to use computer software in order to handle working with a Computer Aided Design (CAD) system, word processing and spreadsheets.  Must be able to make notations in the field and correct drawings as necessary to improve documentation of circuits.
  • Must understand operation and maintenance of acid-cell batteries and apply this understanding to keep batteries in top service condition at all times.  This includes testing of batteries using specific gravity and load testing devices
  • Must have an understanding of current ANSI B77 and National Electrical Codes.  Must be able to research application of these codes as relates to the Heavenly lift network and various other electrical systems found throughout the Resort to ensure safety and compliance with these codes.
  • Must understand AC and DC motor theory, inductance and capacitance. This includes complete maintenance, adjustment and testing of motors.  This includes troubleshooting of DC drives and sub-systems
  • Must be able to complete fact-finding and troubleshooting without direction to ascertain     the primary cause of a problem before asking for assistance.  Troubleshooting of a control circuit or sub-system should be able to be completed without further assistance from a more qualified Electrician.  Most repairs based on the results of troubleshooting should be able to be completed without further direction.
  • Must possess leadership skills and be able to direct others in the completion of tasks.  Electricians in this position are generally responsible for the Lift Electrical operation on either the California or the Nevada side of the mountain.
  • Must have knowledge of power network on mountain and lodge areas in order to provide location of facilities to prevent inadvertent damage due to digging and other construction activity.  Also must be able to visually inspect power and telephone lines for damage to direct Utility Vendors to facilitate service restoration.

 

Job Requirements

  •  Ability to work weekends and holidays as required based on the nature of the work.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard at an intermediate level.
  • Must be able to work in an enviornment involving noise pollution, requiring the use of hearing protection.
  • Must be able to and comfortable working in confined spaces or on towers up to 130’.
  • Must be able to and comfortable working in close proximity of energized circuits up to 480volts AC and 550volts DC.

 

Education or Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Electronics or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • Formal electrical / electronic training and/or certification from a Lift Manufacturer.
