Position Purpose

Plans, directs, monitors and or coordinate through department managers and supervisors overall bakery operations activities which include finance, production, manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, materials, quality assurance, continuous improvement, and safety to produce the highest quality food at the lowest possible cost. Creates and implements processes that minimize production costs and waste while maximizing production output. Recommends methods to improve safety, productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations. Ensures adherence to corporate policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance. Oversees third party audits.

Scope/Complexity/Supervisory Responsibilities

Establishes operational objectives and assignments. Delegates assignments to managers. Responsible for implementing company policies which affect immediate operation(s) and may also have company-wide effect. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Ensures budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are met.

  • Oversee and manage day to day operations of the bakery.
  • Lead managers and staff to deliver and exceed performance metrics in areas of safety, quality, customer, service, costs, inventory management and production.
  • Manage, analyze, create reports, and develop recommendations from the key metrics of bakery operations.
  • Oversees the coordination and scheduling of production to meet sales and marketing demand levels.
  • Develop policies and procedures targeted to eliminate downtime and improve bakery efficiencies.
  • Supports and directs location Continuous Improvement programs.

Ensure compliance with all safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory, and company policies.
  • Perform production area walk­throughs, investigate problem areas, determine cause, mitigate to ensure policy conformance.
  • Ensure bakery is inspection ready at all times.
  • Oversee Warehouse FEFO (First Expired First Out) practice, and adherence to cleanliness and operational standards.
  • Address and respond to new product review (PPR) questions.
  • Participate and promote ARYZTA Cares philosophy
  • Set forth standards for safety.
  • Ensure accident/loss prevention and security policies are followed.

Evaluate bakery performance, monitor expenses and resolve internal and customer issues.
  • Develops and implements financial and non-financial objectives for the location including the annual budget, financial forecasts and operating plans.
  • Ensure all departments perform within budgeted operating standards.
  • Resolve variances (production reporting, ingredient usage, labor utilization).
  • Responsible for all capital expenditure projects for the bakery to ensure completion on schedule and within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Plans and directs customer relations activities through development of effective relationships with key customers.
  • Along with FSQA will manage customer complaint resolution; manage vendor issues; ensure product meets customer specifications and expectations.

  • Coordinates the selection, motivation and development of the employees of the bakery to ensure all positions are ably staffed and future management is developed.
  • Measure employee and team performance.
  • Foster positive employee relations
  • Review and approve timecard reports.

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business, Engineering, Operation Management, Finance) preferred and 7 years food manufacturing experience, including managerial experience OR Associates Degree (Business, Engineering, Operation Management, Finance) and 10 years of food manufacturing experience, including managerial experience
  • Quality, accounting, engineering or production background in food manufacturing
  • Excellent leadership, communications and team building skills
  • General knowledge of process equipment and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent P&L and budgeting experience
  • Good writing, mathematics, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Basic accounting knowledge
  • Computer literate with proficiency in spreadsheet and word applications
Preferred
  • Ability to take a global approach to business
  • Ability to manage vendors at the local level
  • Experience working in a union environment and experience with union contract administration
