Michael Baker International seeks an energetic & self-motivated Entry Level Structural Engineer eager to learn the structural engineering discipline as part of an interdisciplinary project team on a broad range of government and civic project types. An ideal candidate will have experience with structural analysis and design software, as well as CADD.

This is an opportunity to grow into the Structural Engineering discipline in an existing and well respected international company with full local engineering capabilities. Michael Baker’s local office has won local and national awards for its contribution to the design profession throughout the globe. An Entry Level Structural Engineer who joins our team will be able to work on projects with our local team along with Michael Baker’s national resources to perform career-defining work. As your experience with Michael Baker grows, so will your responsibilities as you develop into a Licensed Professional Engineer.

Can you walk me through a typical day of an Entry Level Structural Engineer?
  • The majority of your day would be spent working as part of a Structural Engineering project team for the design of bridge, building and retaining wall structures.
  • Specific structural engineering tasks include preparation of design calculations, structural drafting, quantity calculations, and preparation of construction cost estimates.
  • Daily communication with Project Task Leader on key issues and project progress.

  • This position will initially focus on the provision of in-depth training on a wide variety of tasks to establish your structural engineering foundation. Through your involvement on project teams, you will develop into a highly capable structural Design Engineer, which is on the path towards becoming a structural Project Engineer that leads teams of structural engineers. Your demonstrated expertise as a Project Engineer will then provide the opportunity to become a Project Manager who can lead multi-disciplinary teams on large, complex structural engineering projects. Beyond that, the opportunities for engineering and business leadership are limitless.
  • At Michael Baker International, a critically important aspect of career development is both obtaining your Professional Engineer license and continuing education. Advanced engineering degrees are highly encouraged and supported within the Structural Engineering discipline.
Could you be the Entry Level Structural Engineer we are looking for?
  • You’ll need a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with coursework relevant to working in the structural engineering field.
  • You’ll need to demonstrate an eagerness to learn and apply your engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs.
  • The ability to communicate and effectively participate as part of an engineering team is critical.
  • Computer knowledge/experience with the following is a huge plus: AutoCAD, Microstation, Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), structural modeling, analysis, and design software.
