As an Editorial Assistant you provide editorial and administrative support to the Editorial Development team and Executive Editor. In this capacity you will be involved with a variety of research, copyediting and copywriting projects for our industry leading language learning publications geared towards the higher education sector.  In addition to monitoring and coordinating the progress of ongoing projects you will support the team in developing and selecting engaging and relevant content for our French, Spanish, German and Italian learning materials and college level programs as well as editing and revising content for publication. Our ideal candidate possesses a keen eye for grammar (in English and French and or Spanish), exceptional project management, time management, organization, and communication skills as well as being extremely detail oriented. A true passion for languages and learning is essential!

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare manuscripts, tearsheets, photo specs, audio scripts and bookmaps for delivery
  • Create transcripts and translations of video material in French or Spanish
  • Research television clips, short films and or literary readings for inclusion in Vista Higher Learning French, German, Spanish and Italian titles  and research other ad-hoc projects as needed
  • Write activities and articles and copyedit materials for publication in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Collaborate with in-house Editorial Development and Project Management teams
  • File and store critical electronic manuscript files and all relevant print materials in a secure and appropriate manner
  • Track and enter data in Excel
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Provide light administrative support to Executive Editor as needed
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related duties as required

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • A BA/ BS degree
  • Must possess native proficiency (written and verbal) in English
  • Near native proficiency in French and or Spanish is required (written and verbal)
  • Additional proficiency in Italian or German is a strong plus
  • 1+ years prior work experience; project management, editing and research experience preferred
  • Excellent writing, grammar, spelling, proofreading skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - both written and verbally
  • Pays strict attention to details and is capable of keeping track of multiple ongoing projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fluid and fast paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external team members
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • A passion for travel and languages
  • Strong MS Word and MS Excel skills
  • Experience with Adobe, K4 or InDesign is a strong plus
  • Prior experience teaching is a strong plus
