Summary of Job: The Entry level Cook has a positive work ethic and limited kitchen knowledge, and is dedicated to learning the business as they work with other cooks.  He/She will be trained on the importance of standards, speed, and quality and will be expected to demonstrate competence within these standards after training.  This position works with other line cooks to prepare and cook the necessary quantities of food and carry out established quality standards. Possessing limited knowledge of cooking techniques and practices, the Entry Cook is expected to learn the station assigned and be able to maintain it on a daily basis. Ability to work off prep list and complete station setup in time allotted, fabricate items to standard during service and complete prep list for next service period. Must be able to communicate clearly with chef and sous chef to ensure that customer needs are met.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Report to your shift on time, in uniform and ready to work
  • Execute daily operations by opening and /or closing procedures
  • Set up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies
  • Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat, portioning, or preparing sauces)
  • Cook menu items in cooperation with the recipes and company policy
  • Answer, report and follow executive or sous chef’s instructions
  • Clean up station and take care of leftover food
  • Stock inventory appropriately
  • Ensure that food comes out in high quality and in a timely fashion
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Memorize and utilize our serving portion sizes and all basic meal prep procedures used in the kitchen
  • Monitor product freshness and rotate out old product based on a schedule created by the restaurant
  • Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
  • Maintain daily temperature and waste logs
  • Receiving and proper storage of food items and chemicals according to state law and company policy
  • Engaging with customers and personalizing their experience.
  • Participate in in daily pre and post shift meetings with the Shift Leads, Team Leads and/or Food and Beverage Director
  • Always follow proper food and safety standards
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally to staff and guests.  Respond and engage with customer suggestions, complaints and recognition
  • Create and maintain a productive, safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Job Requirements:  

  • High School - required
  • Able to speak, comprehend, and understand English - required
  • Able to work weekends, and holidays - required
  • Able to lift and carry 50lbs - required
  • Able to work overtime if needed during high volume part of the season - required
  • Able to talk and hear directions in a loud kitchen environment - required
  • Able to assure safe and clean work condition for all personnel - required
  • Previous cooking experience - highly preferred
  • Able to work in a loud, hot kitchen for up to 8 hours during a shift – required
  • Must have Food Handlers Certification for Wisconsin – required
  • Certified Slip Resistant shoes are required prior to starting work.  Shoes must be provided by the employee – required
  • Must follow all policies and procedures for the Food and Beverage Department and Vail Resorts - required
