Our client, a steel tubing and pipe solutions (leading manufacturer of welded and DOM mechanical steel tubing, cold-drawn seamless tubing, fabricated, precision tubular components and plated steel bars, etc.), is currently hiring a Director of Production Control and Logistics.
The Director of Production Control and Logistics will lead and build a world-class organization to effectively manage raw material, inventory control, capacity planning and sales & operations planning for all plants / operations. The position will have corporate direct reports and eight material managers reporting dotted line to this position. The position requires the ability to manage suppliers, support personnel and provide required training including training root cause problem solving.
The PC & L Director will be responsible for North American plant-wide materials management activities including: master scheduling, capacity planning, inventory control, on-time delivery, purchasing, transportation, contract negotiations with vendors and material handling. The Director will provide management and coordination in the overall control and efficient movement of materials in and out of the plants. Manage Material Schedulers, Supply Chain Management Associates, Shipping and Receiving employees. This is to be achieved in the safest manner while achieving plant wide measurable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises, establishes and coordinates the production schedules in a factory environment. Ensures the flow of materials, parts and assemblies between or within departments. Assures plants are shipping to customer requirements and meeting weekly and monthly backlog requirements
Budgeting and forecasting of on-time delivery, plant capacities, inventory, freight, and material requirement planning labor requirements. This includes capacity utilization and inventory cost goal setting by line and monitoring efficiencies
Develop required planning, forecasting and scheduling systems for all plants. Assure plants are following defined standard scheduling method
Develop material flow improvements across plants by utilizing lean manufacturing techniques for improved flow & connections
Manage the Purchasing manager and oversee all supplier contract negotiations including developing plans to address supplier issues
Work with COO and Plant Managers to ensure smooth capacity planning for current and future programs, new program launches, new capital requests, payment/cost recovery flow
Continually examine raw material costs to assure cash management remains in line with business goals and is subject to continuous improvement
Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers
Provide assurance that all material management reporting functions operate within approved budgetary limits
Ensure that plant production is supported with a smooth, efficient and consistent flow of part supply
Manage and monitor all logistics costs related to freight and maintain and resolve all invoices
Maintain positive relationships and exceed expectations with external customers, sister plants and internal customers which is not limited to production, quality, accounting, human resources and
maintenance
Contribute to the evaluation and planning for future programs and the effects that it will have on operations. This includes but is not limited to Lean implementation, new material computer systems and processes, premium freight recovery systems and bar-coding of materials and packaging
Overall responsibility for Materials management and Procedures. Participate in monthly business reviews and complete monthly key measurables
Lead the Materials team in developing efficient logistics of inbound/outbound freight systems that supports production and inventory levels. This includes pricing negotiations for outbound freight,
efficient truck utilization, maintaining expedite trucks through regular preventative maintenance and maintaining all licensing requirements
Establish procedures for authorization of premium freight. Monitor all freight as a percentage of materials to ensure efficiency
Ensures overall customer care of materials including review of capacity requirements, system integrity, controlling obsolescence claims, ensuring effective engineering work order implementation and set up,
creating an effective spare replacement parts system, management reviewing all customer scheduling and monitoring overall delivery performance
Overall responsibility for inventory levels and adjustments, ensuring compliance with the Bill of Materials and cycle count requirements, and ensuring successful audits are conducted as required
Monitor event impacts such as scrap of non-conforming material and the movement of all parts within the facilities. Ensure associates have proper training in the above mentioned areas as well as pre-scanning, posting, and scheduling adherence.
Ensure that all materials activities are performed within the procedures and work instructions
Responsible for customs, brokerage, freight contracts and negotiations
Ensures conformance to OEM shipping guidelines
Performs management responsibilities in accordance with RNA policies, procedures and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising
performance, coaching and counselling
Recommend, support and implement continuous process improvements as required
Engage in continuous learning and professional development to maintain current knowledge within the field to meet required compliance and regulatory job requirements
Understands, supports, and contributes to Total Quality Management, Quality (ISO/TS 16949), Environmental Management (ISO14000) Systems, and Environmental Health & Safety by following approved policies and procedures
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Four-year college degree and with 7 - 15 years of experience in Production Control & Logistics and/or Supply Chain
