Lab Manager Direct Hire   Objective or Scope   The Laboratory Manager has the primary responsibility to perform and oversee all essential functions required for the laboratory at that site.   Essential Functions   Understand and execute the companies QAP program Good understanding of ASTM and other test methods for QC and physical testing of coatings Understand the production process and support formulation adjustments as necessary Meet expected and unexpected deadlines for production and shipping, in collaboration with lab QC. Assist and help coordinate R&D projects Ability to color match Calibrate and use laboratory equipment Problem solve Generate Certificates of Analysis & Environmental data Assure all necessary safety requirements are followed Formulate various solvent and water coating chemistries; epoxies, urethanes, acrylics & alkyds     Accountabilities   Contribute to the overall success of the company by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner. Follow all Company policies and procedures, not limited to those set forth in the Employee Handbook, Corporate Safety Manual and Quality Manual.   Abide by all Federal, State and local regulations, especially those concerning the handling, storage, processing and shipping of hazardous materials and waste as provided in related training manuals.   Position Requirements   4 year technical BS degree or equivalent experience in the coatings field. Strong mathematical & chemical skills Strong verbal & written skills. Good management skills Ability to work overtime frequently, sometimes with little or no notice. Ability to work with potentially sensitive chemical ingredients. Knowledgeable in the use of computers – MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint Supervision   The Laboratory Manager reports directly to the Research and Development Director The Laboratory Manager supervises other lab assistants for that facility     Physical Activities and Requirements   Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push pull, lift, grasp, talk and perform repetitive motions.   Ability to exert in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.     Equipment Used   Lab Cowles and/or Sandmill Grind Gauge, gloss meters, viscometers, pH, sag bars, film thickness gauges Spectrophotometer – color matching system Spray Guns & Drawdown Charts Performance Test Equipment – hardness, abrasion, corrosion, UV, flexibility & chemical resistance   Environmental Conditions   The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, heat, cold, noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions, oils and solvents.
