Job DescriptionThe PM Labor Pool position is part of a team that has accountability for the safe operation of the paper mill and producing quality products at a high level of efficiency. Incumbents will report directly to the Paper Mill Crew Leader, but may also take direction from the Paper Mill Asset leaders. These are hourly paid positions that work a rotating 24 hour, 7 day per week shift schedule.This is the entry level position in the paper mill operations. The expectation is that individuals filling this position will be self-motivated to learn all of the responsibilities within the paper mill operation over time to ensure complete operational flexibility so that paper machine employees can flow to the work as needed. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Safety: PM Labor pool will accept personal responsibility at all times for themselves and assist where they can to ensure the safety of other team members and contractors. This includes, but is not limited to such things as:- Ensuring all safety rules and safe work procedures are followed by themselves and by others working in and around the machinery- All injuries and near misses being reported and followed up in a timely manner - Actively participate in accident incident investigations- Housekeeping standards and expectations are maintained- Active participation in team safety meetings, discussions, and training opportunities- Responsible for ensuring team members are following all safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, PPE, etc. - Participate in crew discussions prior to major events, e.g. down days, felt changes, blade changes, etc. emphasizing Job Hazard Analyses prior to commencing work.- Ensure crew has adequate supply of required safety equipment- First Responder responsibilities in the event of emergencies, which may include leading firefighting efforts if needed, determine whether to call in outside fire fighting resources, ensure that fire extinguishers are always available.Quality:PM Labor pool will ensure that all parent roll paper products adhere to the quality conformance specifications. This includes, but is not limited to such things as:- Lead by example by being a quality advocate- Providing support as needed to others paper machine employees to correct quality deficiencies e.g. product or packaging defects- Special Cause analysis assistance in situations requiring further investigation and/or follow-up- Correct quality deficiencies e.g. troubleshoot coating issues that result in picking, sheet defects- Help troubleshoot testing equipment problems- Ensure parent roll and finished product testing is completedProductivity:PM Labor pool will safely:- Operate paper machine at centerline conditions, standard speeds, etc. to maximize productivity and efficiency- Document and communicate operation change according to Company SOPs - Coordinate machine crews on daily basis to insure safe machine productivity, efficiency, yield.- Make decisions such as when wash-ups are needed, when to change Yankee doctor blades, etc. and ensure proper procedures consistent with TAD fabric safety are executed Costs:PM Labor pool will:- Manage costs that they have the ability to impact wisely and eliminate waste (i.e. raw materials, parts, tools, time, personnel), and take the initiative to bring forward and resolve issues. - Monitor key performance indicators that drive product cost, maximize paper machine cost efficiency by operating equipment at centerline, e.g. TAD and reel moisture- Manage broke paper inventories by utilizing broke as produced through process.- Minimize chemical usages per quality standards Equipment and Facility Maintenance: PM Labor pool will work to maintain the integrity of the facility and operating equipment and facility to ensure on-going safe, reliable operations. This includes such things as:- Maintaining housekeeping standards, e.g. ensure periodic blow down of dry end and other machine areas per SOP- Interface with on-shift maintenance resource to ensure continuous machine operation.- Performing required inspections, lubrications, and other operator basic care as identified per SOP.- Ensure that all crew members complete operator basic care rounds per SOP.- Monitor condition of process equipment, monitor operating temperature of critical equipment- Initiating, completing and/or assisting with equipment maintenance and repair as needed. Team DevelopmentPM Labor pool will be expected to take an active role in learning the paper machine equipment, processes, and systems. Additionally, they will be expected to:- Participate in organizational improvement teams, e.g. Safety Committee, Quality Improvement, Productivity / Cost Reduction Teams, etc., as assigned on a rotating basis- Responsible to insure that all crew member-s complete annual safety training requirementsQualifications-High School Diploma or GED-Work Keys(Reading, Math & Looking for Information) Assessment (Silver)-Mechanical Aptitude (STM Assessment)-Ability to work in a Team environment-Committed to safety & organizational goals-A record of stable & continuous employment-Minimum of 2 years manufacturing experience or completion of the Industrial Readiness Course-Must be computer literate-Professional communication skills-Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision-Must be 18 years of age-Ability to lift up to 50lbs., climb ladders and stairs, and stand for continuous periods of time-Ability to work rotating 12hr shifts, OT, & weekends/holidays-Ability to work in a hot, humid, noisy, & high volume machine production area-Ability & willingness to work safely & wear PPE as required-Meeting Attendance expectation Why Kelly®?At Kelly Services®, we work with the best.
