A glimpse at the job:

Our Overnight Grocery team members are the people playing an integral role overnight to support the store’s daytime operations. As a team leader in this department, you’ll work closely with the crew, managing and helping develop their skills. You’ll assist in ensuring the department is running smoothly and products are out on the shelves. If you enjoy leading others to service our customers and accomplish tasks within deadlines, then our Overnight Grocery Team Leader position could be for you!

How do I make a difference?

  • Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Customer Service
  • Approach customers to assist them in locating products and seek to offer solutions to questions or concerns
  • Reshop misplaced products, shrinking out damaged goods and refilling missing items to ensure product levels are maintained and aisles are kept in pristine shopping condition 

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

  • Educate and ensure team members are properly handling products and equipment in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines, aiming to reduce the amount of damage goods and shrink

Continuously Improving Results

  • Perform tasks essential to the proper functioning of the department including keeping a simplified backroom, ordering with Simplification practices in mind, scheduling and managing payroll
  • Lead employees by example to complete tasks that include: stocking, refilling and rotating items on shelves; walking aisles; unloading deliveries and breaking down skids, ensuring resources are utilized and tasks are completed within designated timeframes
  • Work with team to break down delivery skids, place products to be shelved onto runners, sort back stock onto pallets and maximize workspace
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the Overnight manager and team members as well as the day Grocery team to ensure pertinent information is shared and tasks are completed in the most efficient manner
  • Support other departments by unloading their overnight deliveries and placing skids in their designated area of the backroom

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting
  • Developing others by providing encouragement to folks to take on tasks that challenge them and align with their personal career goals while holding frequent development discussions using performance and career development tools to coach employees who need help and further development
  • Demonstrating an ability to manage others by working with employees to set and achieve goals, rewarding performance while exercising courage when providing honest, timely, and actionable feedback
  • Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
  • Work towards continuous improvement to encourage change; find ways to increase profitability and productivity; and improve processes, products & customer service in the department(s)
  • Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
  • Practice proper action planning techniques which include managing time and resources, and breaking down work into milestones to accomplish priority activities

Work environment: 

  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Work includes walking, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, kneeling, squatting frequent heavy lifting, shelving of product, repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, and reaching, along with interaction with customers and co-workers. Work may involve exposure to and work in cold and below freezing temperatures. The average weight range of items lifted is 8-32 pounds with a maximum weight lifted greater than 50 pounds occasionally. You may receive assistance with heavy items, if available. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction)
  • Work includes use of hand pallet jack, power pallet jack, power walkie-reach, scissors lift or WAV unit.  Wegmans certification required for use of power equipment
