Position Summary

Inspect all incoming loaded and empty trailers prior to being moved. Determine contents, physical damage and cleanliness inside and outside, and to ensure that company is not liable for any damage received to incoming trailers before being staged in the yard.

Perform refrigerated unit checks on all loaded trailers to make certain the quality of the contents is being preserved. Any major or minor problems of these units are to be communicated to the assigned maintenance groups and the trucking firm for repair.

Assures customer satisfaction through identifying, as an individual and as a member of a work unit, the internal and external customers; jointly determines customer needs and means of measurement to deliver mutually agreed upon products/services. Continually investigates methods to improve customer satisfaction to achieve the ultimate goal of quality relationships.

Supervision Required

Be able to work independently with limited direct supervision. Incumbent is responsible to make sound decisions for his/her operation, also is responsible to the Transportation Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Inspect all incoming loaded and empty trailers prior to being moved.

2. Report all information through Yard Management System and handle all Bills of Lading properly. Sign a copy of the Bill of Lading for the over-the-road truck drivers when trailer arrives. (SLC: Shipper Loaded Counted)

3. Ensure all information concerning incoming trailers is entered into the computer.

4. Communicate effectively to the truck dispatchers.

5. Communicate with all trucking firms on information concerning their trailers on a 24-hour basis. Specifically rejected trailers and with refrigerated unit problems that may cause damage to products.

6. Communicate with all truck drivers on where to stage certain trailers.

7. Makes decisions on the cleanliness of the trailers, both inside and outside.

8. Obtains the Bills of Lading from incoming loaded trailers, make copies and deliver to the appropriate departments to expedite payment for materials delivered.

9. Drive company vehicle to perform trailer yard checks.

10. Keep the trailer inspection and lot clean and assist the dispatchers and supervision with other various duties.

11. Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: Familiarity with trailers preferred. Good record keeping skills needed.

Specialized knowledge, machines or equipment operated:

Good communication skills; operate motor vehicle; truck and trailer knowledge helpful.

License: MUST have a valid motor vehicle operators license.

Working Conditions:

Outside in all weather conditions for approximately 50-50% of the shift. Some physical effort a lot of walking, standing and may also include some light lifting. Communicate with outside groups on occasion.
