The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for ensuring the produce department provides the highest quality product and service to customers. Key areas of responsibility for an Assistant Produce Clerk will include quality control, merchandising, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the produce department, inventory management, addressing employee relations issues, monitoring labor costs, hiring, and assisting the produce manager in other leadership duties as needed.

ASSISTANT PRODUCE MANAGER DUTIES

Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Participate in hiring, training and employee relations matters at the discretion of the produce manager.
2. Promote produce sales through effective merchandising and cross-selling displays.
3. Monitoring produce department for quality.
4. Unloading incoming shipments of produce items and discussing shipment items with vendors as directed by produce manager.
5. Closely monitor inventory.
6. Utilize appropriate rotation techniques and ensure the freshest product is available for sale when stocking produce department.
7. Proactively work to create a safe, clean department and follow all health and sanitation guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to a full job description, the following are some of the key qualifications required for this position.
1. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required due to a high level of customer interaction.
2. Basic math, reading and writing skills are required.
3. Must be able to address customer concerns in a professional, courteous manner.
4. A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a grocery retail setting is required for consideration in this position, 3 years is preferred.
5. Applicants should be able to meet certain physical requirements, such as being able to stand and walk for long periods of time, and other requirements listed in a full job description.
6. A high school diplolma or equivalent is preferred.
