We are searching for a Manager of Product Management to manage a team of Associate Product Managers that oversee the execution of product strategy at the team level. In this role, you will work with our existing team of managers, software developers, designers and analysts as QuoteCenter expands as a core strategic product within Home Depot’s portfolio.?

Job Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team 

  • Hire Associate Product Managers that align with our strategic domains and culture 
  • Develop and mentor the existing Associate Product Management team 

Process creation and improvement 

  • Create new standards and processes for the associate product team 
  • Constantly evaluate existing standards and oversee their ability to scale 

Cross-functional communication 

  • Be a product ambassador across the organization 
  • Foster a transparent and collaborative culture with peers and executives

Experience

  • Experienced people manager and leader 
  • Successfully built teams from the ground up and scaled them 
  • The ideal candidate is someone who has managed product backlogs for an engineering team. 
  • Demonstrated expert in product ownership theory and practice 
  • Experience working in agile scrum  
  • The ideal candidate will have a track record of leading by experience as well as execution 
  • Experience managing the constraints and tensions of: 
  • Executive-level stakeholders with a short-term focus and attention span 
  • Balancing innovative disruption versus incremental improvement 
  • Experience incorporating data analysis into the product management process 
  • The ideal candidate is someone who can help QuoteCenter strike the right balance between quantitative and qualitative inputs 
  • Mentor and teacher

 MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES, AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

30% - Strategy & Planning:
Looks across product teams and feature sets with a focus on alignment and dependencies
Gains a thorough understanding of customer and associate needs, both existing and potential, and uses that knowledge to help deliver enterprise products that provide Home Depot customers and associates with an unparalleled shopping experience
Translates business goals and end user needs into product strategy and clearly communicates direction and product priorities to the product team and business partners
Meets with users and stakeholders as needed to understand processes, pain points and system waste in order to identify where to improve the user experience
Creates epics to drive improvements to product vision, features and back end systems, and adjusts for new business models
Determines value to the business of anticipated product updates
Identifies goals, metrics and appropriate analytics to measure the performance of products and continually makes recommendations and refinements to products based on learnings
40% - Delivery & Execution:
Reviews recommended solutions and work of product team to ensure products are aligned with company, stakeholder and end user priorities
Removes roadblocks and obstacles that may impair product teams to help ensure delivery of the product in order to meet strategic, financial and technical goals
Receives and prioritizes incoming requests from business partners and stakeholders while keeping in mind the business strategy, product vision and user needs
Provides regular updates to leadership regarding progress of products within portfolio
30% - People:
Provides leadership, mentoring and coaching to Product Managers
Attracts, retains and develops top talent to build a world class Product Management Team
Conducts annual and mid-year reviews, reviewing individual development plans and providing performance feedback
Fosters collaboration with team members (Engineering, UX, etc.) to drive value and identify and resolve impediments
Acts as a proponent of modern software development practices
Advocates for the end user and stakeholder by becoming associated with the product, empathizing with and understanding user needs
Works with the product team to continuously assess progress, disseminate lessons learned and understand next steps
Manages cross functional team and stakeholder expectations to execute on product strategy and provides education to requestors to determine prioritization based on tangible benefits and/or user experience
Guides more junior team members in strategy, alignment, analysis and execution tasks
Participates in and contributes to learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)
NATURE AND SCOPE
Typically reports to the Product Management Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Recent experience operating in a leadership capacity, i.e. managing project teams or direct management is a bonus. 
  • Proven ability to digest high level problems and move through the process of questioning, analyzing, and troubleshooting to defining potential solutions, gaining stakeholder buy-in and collaborating with necessary teams to execute strategy. 
  • Ability to decompose complex business problems into digestible pieces, pair with meaningful data and work back up to holistic solution recommendation. 
  • Proven history of working with stakeholders, users and subject matter experts to gain a functional understanding of business problems and technical solutions then documenting business knowledge, defining, and prioritizing requirements. 
  • Experience defining & supporting operational objectives by gathering information from subject matter experts in the following areas: Technology, Business Strategy, Operations, and End Users. 
  • Prior experience defining and implementing team standards/templates is required. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users. 
  • Experience indirectly managing people and processes around project groups is a bonus. 
  • Productivity tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Slack, or other comparable tools
  • Agile Scrum experience
