Position Purpose:

Performs routine and specialized procedures, and reviews and approves clinical test results, for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients, in accordance with established protocol for laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by standards of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA 88). Supports Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

Job Description Details:

Minimum Licensure & Certification Required (if applicable):

1. Current or eligible American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification as Medical Technologist (MT) desirable, but not necessary, with documented training and education; can consider previously certified medical technologists who met credentialing requirements from Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW certified MT).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Medical Technology), or biological, chemical, or related science, and satisfactory completion of clinical laboratory educational rotation.

2. Bachelor's Degree from regionally accredited college or university, including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, and successful completion of National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited medical technologist program.

* or-

3. Bachelor's Degree from regionally accredited college or university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry, one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, and one (1) year of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and/or clinical microscopy within last ten years; clinical rotations or professional experience must be under supervision of pathologist certified by American Board of Pathology (ABP), or appropriately board certified medical scientist and medical technologist.

4. New graduate to five (5) years of experience in clinical laboratory setting.

5. General knowledge of laboratory methodologies, interpretation of results, and quality assurance.

6. Completed accredited internship in all areas of laboratory for which employee is to be responsible, or documented/traceable on-the-job training in accredited laboratory.

7. Ability to work in harmony with personnel, to build team driven customer service.

8. Basic computer literacy.

9. Comprehension, skill and command of oral and written English.
