Administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician; monitors patients pre and post procedure for vital signs, ECG, O2 saturation, arrhythmias, cardiovascular status changes, pain, mental status changes and intervenes appropriately. establishes nursing care priorities, responds quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Education & Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

Minimum one year of previous critical care experience

One year of previous diagnostic/invasive cardiac cath lab and/or recovery experience preferred

Excellent IV Skills

Licensure:

BLS and ACLS

Florida RN License

ASSESSMENT

* Care provided is appropriate to the age of the patients served, as defined in the scope of service for the nurses area of practice, to include: Early Adulthood (19-45 years), Middle Adulthood (46-60 years),Later Adulthood (Over 61 years)

* Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs.

* Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of growth and development

* Demonstrates an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.

* Makes initial assessment, and determines appropriate nursing needs of assigned patients, as evidenced by appropriate documentation

* Performs initial and ongoing assessment on all assigned patients, including a review of systems, as evidenced by appropriate documentation.

* Documents thoroughly and accurately pre and post-procedure information, including H&P, lab results, hemodynamic data medication administration, pain assessment, physical assessment, bed assignment information, ARU log book.

* Demonstrates clinical competency with blood draw, IV starts, blood glucose monitoring and quality control techniques and demonstrates clinical competency with ACT monitoring and quality control and running samples.

* Demonstrates clinical competency with ACT monitoring and quality control and running samples.

* Demonstrates clinical competency with sheath removal and can verbally state the potential hazards associated with this procedure. Demonstrates competency using topical closure patches in conjunction with manual/ C-Clamp pressure

* Demonstrates clinical competency with the administration of IV moderate sedation. Verbalizes correct drug dosages, knowledge of drug interactions, contraindications, etc., including reversal agents

* Identifies problems, initiates nursing directions, provides direct/indirect nursing

interventions and maintains appropriate patient clinical records.

Notifies physician in a timely manner of any pertinent physical/emotional findings and documents appropriately.

Evaluates and documents the patients response to nursing and medical intervention in accordance with Policy and Procedure.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT/STEWARDSHIP

* Assures equipment functions safely. Tags broken equipment and enters work orders for any repair needs to Biomedical Engineering. Maintains ongoing safety and orderliness of work areas. Cleans, stocks, and organizes areas of responsibility rotating supplies to prevent out-of-date equipment.

LEADERSHIP

* Follows established staffing guidelines and adjusts staff accordingly as workload fluctuates.

* Ensures that all assigned duties are completed.

* Takes responsibility for smooth operation and patient flow on a daily basis. Informs Director of operation problems in a timely manner.

* Performs other job related duties and projects as assigned by Director.

* Regularly participates in gathering data for PI initiatives.

* Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures by acquiring continuing education, seeking learning opportunities within fields of cardiac catherization and electrophysiology.

TEACHING

* Provides patient and families with explanation of condition and written information, when possible. Utilizes opportunities for health teaching.

* Participates in on-unit clinical orientation of new staff when requested.

* Participates in on-unit education of varying levels of students assigned to the unit.

* Collaborates with nursing in preparing patients for procedure to ensure patient

understanding, compliance, and satisfaction.

* Answers patient and family questions to ensure understanding and provides emotional support for the patients and family.

COMMUNICATION

* Reports pertinent observations and nursing actions to Director.

* Communicates clearly and effectively with physicians and other health care providers.

* Collaborates regularly with all other clinical disciplines in the planning of patient care and the development/implementation of the discharge plan as appropriate.

* Participates in the investigation of physician and/or patient complaints, takes action to correct, and/or refers to Director when outside scope of authority.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS

* Reduces patient's anxiety through calmness of own manner and by explaining all procedures thoroughly.

* Demonstrates the essence of "team" by acting in a positive, productive manner with co-workers and other department personnel.

* Assists other staff members with completing assignments in a timely manner.

* Can function in labs as a circulator or moderate sedation monitoring to assist fellow staff members in completing assignments, covering for meal breaks, or float for the day.

* Serves on hospital, medical staff and nursing committees as required.
