 We are hiring a strategic, quality driven Director of Human Resources for Northstar California Resort.   This individual will be responsible for effectively planning, developing and implementing a fully integrated human resources strategy.  The Director of Human Resources will administer a wide variety of HR programs in support of the resort's objectives and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal employment laws, policies, and regulations.  He/she will also have oversight with the corporate functional areas over the strategic direction of employee relations, recruiting strategies, leadership development, compensation and benefit programs.   As an integral leader, this person will also establish and monitor appropriate training programs according to Vail Resorts and Northstar standards and provide general guidance to the organization on matters of leadership development.

 

Essential responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
 

  • Serving as a member of the HR Leadership Team & the Northstar Senior Leadership Team.
  • Leadership of the HR function for all Northstar employees including Mountain, Hospitality, Retail, and Summer (approx 1900 winter employees and  600 summer employees )
  • Ensuring all Human Resources practices & programs are consistent and effective while maintaining compliance with local and state employment laws and regulatory requirements
  • Providing counsel on employee relations strategy, including investigation of issues, government programs and compliance with legal requirements, disciplinary actions, and coaching support. 
  • Effectively partnering with operational teammates and senior leadership on key issues and business strategy.
  • Partnering with the corporate Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and Employee Relations functions to effectively deliver HR programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborating with mountain, hospitality, retail, and corporate divisions to provide integrated HR tactics and strategy. 
  • Oversight of Northstar employee and uniform center, and uniform distribution and collection process
  • Oversight over the strategic direction of the Northstar Training programs.
  • Position reports to Sr. Director- Human Resouces- Tahoe and dotted line to COO of Northstar Resort.

 

Requirements
 

  • Bachelor's degree required, Advanced degree desired
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience
  • Minimum 6 years supervisory experience in HR department
  • PHR/SPHR Preferred
  • Strong employee relations experience required
  • Expertise in CA employment law preferred
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, experience in PeopleSoft and SuccessFactors preferred
  • Written and Oral English Language skills, Spanish a plus
  • Needs strong change management, analytical skills, operational partnership skills, teambuilding, relationship orientation, and excellent communication skills
