Position Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Food Safety Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) Chemist is to ensure products meet or exceed customer requirements for quality and food safety. Assurance of product quality requires the chemist to monitor quality assurance systems including instrumentation calibration, maintenance, cross-checks, methods, procedures, raw materials, food safety, and training. Additionally, our FSQR Chemists are expected to understand our plant processes and provide technical advice to support our production operations. Data analysis, trend recognition and effective communication are required competencies. The success of the FSQR Chemist position is measured in impact to customer satisfaction, minimization of process variation, process recoveries, waste reduction, and cost minimization.

Principal Accountabilities

50% Daily assessment and in depth management of process quality parameters and quality management systems; including Cross-checks, raw materials, calibration, maintenance, procedures, food safety, training, auditing, and oversight of analytical testing in control rooms.

20% Process improvement support, specialized testing, training, auditing of systems and performance.

10% Final Product Approval. Assurance of compliance to customer specifications.

10% Training of new quality management chemists, analysts, operators, technicians and personnel from other functional areas.

10% Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. (i.e. recruiting and interviewing new employees, and assisting other locations with process start ups, and process support initiative, managing QM work systems, and acts as backup for QM Specialists, safety BBS leadership).

Minimum Required Qualifications

* 4 year degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry OR 4 year degree in science field with minimum 1 year General Chemistry labs, 1 year Organic Chemistry labs, and at least 2 upper level courses relating to Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry.

* Quality Chemists are interviewed and selected based upon their demonstrated abilities of leadership, communication, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work.

* Chemists are additionally evaluated on their technical skills and knowledge

* Flexible, able to work nights, holidays, and weekends as business needs require

Preferred Qualifications

* Proven ability to anticipate, recognize, and solve process and laboratory problems, implement improvements based on the findings.

* Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of food safety, safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
