GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Manager of NursingEvidence-based Practice and Education oversees programs and processes relatedto nursing practice and education, including, but not limited to, nursingprotocols and procedures, nursing competency assessment, nursing orientation,nurse residency program, and nursing education needs assessment. This employee managespersonnel who perform or support these activities, and collaborates closelywith nurse executives and Clinical Informatics to plan Nursing EBP andEducation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Responsible for development, review, revision,and tracking of nursing protocols and procedures. Contributes to review andrevision of nursing policies.

* Promotes EBP and research utilization indevelopment and implementation of policies and procedures.

* Familiar with regulatory standards and IowaNurse Practice Act. Incorporates standards into nursing policies, protocols andprocedures.

* Manages Nursing Education Specialists, educationcoordinators, and other designated employees. Includes interviewing, hiring,scheduling, performance evaluation, discipline, and professional developmentoversight.

* Manages assigned department expenses withinbudget.

* Provides oversight to the Nurse ResidencyProgram

* Develops and conducts nursing educationalprograms; oversees training for nursing personnel related to newproducts/equipment, performance improvement initiatives, or regulatoryrequirements.

* Serves as a resource on electronic EBPresources, such as Mosby's Nursing Consult and Nursing Skills.

* Participates in CHI national committees and workgroups related to nursing EBP and education as assigned.

* Works closely with Clinical Informaticists toalign EBP with documentation. Reviews and revises nursing documentationpolicies.

* Proficient in use of applicable computerapplications.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

* Leads and facilitates committees and workgroups.

* Delegates tasks appropriately.

* Performs other responsibilities as requested.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

* Possession of a current or compact state licenseas a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.

* Bachelor degree in nursing required. MSN stronglypreferred, or actively in pursuit of MSN degree (accepted into a MSN Programand/or currently enrolled and maintaining at least two courses per year at theCNO or Associate Chief of Nursing's discretion for exception).

* Minimum 3 years nursing experience.

* Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter Childand/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

* BLS certified by the end of the orientationperiod (approximately six (6) weeks).
