Job Description
The Integrated Genetics Division of LabCorp is seeking an Extraction Technician to join their Molecular Diagnostics team in Westborough, MA! The Extraction Technician will be responsible for extracting DNA from a myriad of sample types for molecular genetics testing.
The Integrated Genetics - Westborough site processes extracted DNA from peripheral blood and prenatal samples (amniotic fluid and chorionic villi) for genetic testing. A variety of molecular genetics techniques are used to include Next Generation Sequencing, real time PCR, Sanger Sequencing and Southern Blot analysis to test for specific genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy and Fragile X syndrome to name just a few.
This position will have first shift hours, Monday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday, 6:30am-5:00pm
Responsibilities:
Receive patient samples into the lab for extractions
Under supervision, perform automated and manual DNA extractions from patient samples
Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs
Troubleshoot assays and reagent qualification issues
Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts
Coordinate work assignments and be able to prioritize independently
Participate in a team approach to workflow management of the lab
Requirements
B.A./B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline
Strong understanding of molecular genetics and general chemistry
0 to 2 years of lab testing experience in a diagnostics production laboratory
Previous molecular biology lab experience highly preferred
Excellent attention to detail with an understanding of laboratory practices
