Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine are seeking a transformational, visionary and collaborative pediatric emergency medicine leader with a strong clinical and academic foundation to serve as system-wide Chief of Emergency Services for Children's and Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for Emory University School of Medicine. Children's and Emory strive to be recognized as a local, regional and national pediatric emergency services program in advancing clinical, educational and scholarly activities with the goal of being a top tier program in all areas. The new Chief will have the opportunity to lead this endeavor and to shape the growth of a pediatric emergency services program that is the largest and one to the most comprehensive in the country.

Serving as the Chief of Emergency Services of Children's and Division Director for Emergency Medicine of the Department of Pediatrics at Emory School of Medicine, the Chief will work in collaboration with the Administrative Director, Emergency Services (dyad partner) and have oversight of all emergency care delivered across the enterprise, as well as provide overall strategic leadership of emergency medicine functions, training programs, and ongoing development of the research enterprise.

Advancing a culture of excellence, the Chief will be dedicated to performance expectations, which provide for the highest quality patient care and consistency in clinical care standards, driven by patient safety requirements, clinical outcomes monitoring and family experience expectations. He/she will continue to raise the bar on education and training and sustaining a strong commitment to research efforts.

The Chief will oversee the management of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine to include direct oversight of faculty, staff and will have direct accountability for the Division's clinical service and operational performance. He/she will work collaboratively with PEMA enhancing the alignment and working relationships to advance the delivery of efficient, high quality emergency services across the System.

It is anticipated that the Chief will have some clinical practice presence at all campuses to foster credibility and to develop an appreciation for the problems encountered in the emergency departments and more importantly to be able to identify potential solutions to them and to see the impact of the implementation of these solutions. This position requires an individual who has a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems to maximize efficiency, the leadership to engage physicians and hold them accountable and an enduring commitment to providing an environment conducive to maximizing education.

Education/Academic Credentials

* Doctor of Medicine from an accredited school of medicine; Board Certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and eligibility for licensure in Georgia are required.

* Eligible for an appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine.

* Meet eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of Children's professional staff.

* BLS/PALS/ATLS certification is required.

Experience

* Demonstrated success within an academic department of emergency medicine, ideally at the medical director or chief role.

* A track record of delivering strong operating results. Demonstrated ability to grow revenues, meet budgets, measure and improve outcomes and take appropriate business risks to achieve goals.

* A history of academic achievement through excellence in teaching and research, as demonstrated by publications in high impact journals and peer-reviewed research of consequence.

* A minimum of five years demonstrated leadership achievement in a busy, high-performing, contemporary emergency medicine department of comparable complexity to Children's.

* A strong record as a respected clinician.

* Experience in increasing family experience excellence in an emergency department (75 percentile benchmark or higher).
