Summary:

The Senior Virtualization Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, testing, implementing, administering and troubleshooting virtualization and cloud solutions in multiple types of production environments. In addition to the technical responsibilities, the Senior Virtualization Engineer is charged with self-managing the assigned projects and communicating the status of the project to the IT staff, IT management, vendors, and internal customers. The Senior Virtualization Engineer will also be responsible for design and implementation of projects and production support activities.

Essential Functions:
  • Designs and implements Enterprise VMWare Virtual Environments
  • Implements Multi-Datacenter VM failover solutions using technology inclusive of OTV/LISP, VMWare replication and SRM
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of the entire Virtualization Infrastructure
  • Develops, automates and implements operations best practices for the virtualization environments
  • Performs Capacity Management functions
  • Participates in Business Continuation / Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing
  • Works with team members to deploy VMware and Citrix based solutions to customers
  • Trains and monitors the other members of the Infrastructure team to aid in the overall team’s skills development
  • Ensures ongoing operation of systems/applications through troubleshooting, scheduling/ monitoring jobs and technology-related business processes, and third-level end-user support as needed
  • Develops solutions to customer business requirements, technical problems and/or engineering of systems/applications
  • Participates in 24x7 On-Call rotation schedule
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT or similar technical field
  • Requires 7 years of working experience in the implementation and support of VMWare ESX and all associated system components
  • Requires experience with Cisco UCS as a compute Platform for VMWare ESX Environments
  • Requires experience with ESX Environments that span multiple Data Centers consisting of at least 40 ESX physical host servers
  • Requires experience building XenDeaktop Environments supporting at least 1,500 concurrent end users
  • Must possess exceptionally high customer service skills and excellent customer support
  • Requires Certifications: VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV), VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 – Data Center Design (VCAP5-DCD) and Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization CCP – V
  • Requires advanced technical knowledge of VMware virtualization technologies (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi, DRS, vMotion, HA, FT, DRS, SRM, CapIQ, VCM...)
  • Requires experience with static desktop and dynamic desktop supporting technologies such as Thin Cloning, Provisioning, Application Virtualization (App-V)
  • Requires experience with Storage Network Technologies and boot from SAN
  • Excellent analytical and problems solving skills
  • Ability to operate in an “agile” environment
  • Requires experience with an automated ITSM based ticket tracking systems (FrontRange Solutions HEAT, Remedy, Cherwell, etc.)
  • Requires experience working with projects including writing/documenting technical procedures or training
  • Requires strong technical skills, as well as the ability to work independently with multiple tasks
  • Requires strong oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Preferred experience with PCI-DSS, and/or ITIL v3 Foundations
