About this job

This position will analyze, develop, interpret, and provide recommendations around financial data and to partner with Store and Merchandising teams to improve profitability of the Deli and Cheese departments. In this role, you will also provide oversight and guidance to the Intern position.

Continuously Improving Results

  • Actively partner with the Deli & Cheese departments to provide financial analysis and reporting/interpreting of results
  • Analyze weekly gross profit projections and complete month end closing for Deli & Cheese P&Ls, while working closely with Store and Merchandising personnel to monitor gross profit and inventory opportunities
  • Identify improvement areas and provide proactive recommendations to improve profitability; partner with Store, Division and Merchandising teams to identify and implement action plans & measure success
  • Advise Merchandising on methods of measurement and interpreting results
  • Research, analyze and identify the causes of variances and recommend ways to control shrink to improve profitability
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial analysis, reporting and interpretation of Deli & Cheese department results
  • Integrate technology into existing processes to meet closing deadlines and improve workflow
  • Keep projects on schedule and communicate project statuses, challenges and recommend solutions to management
  • Execute, review and publish Weekly Operating Reports (WOR)
  • Complete special projects for the department
  • Supervise the Operations Accounting Intern

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance, or equivalent experience
  • 2 or more years’ experience analyzing financial data and making recommendations based on interpretations and research
  • 2 or more years of accounting experience with the ability to influence cost structure and profitability
  • Knowledge of debits/credits and how to properly record journal entries
  • Knowledge of shrink and gross profit reporting and factors that influence these results
  • Advanced PC skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Macros
  • Advanced presentation skills, with comfort presenting to groups of varying size and level, and able to explain complex process & theory to an audience with limited technical knowledge
  • Possess strong listening skills and hear many points of view without bias, asking clarifying questions to check for understanding
  • Use available resources to pursue goals and challenges with the intent of achieving results, striving for continued excellence and taking appropriate risks
  • Effectively deal with ambiguity, handling risk and uncertainty with comfort, maintaining effectiveness in the face of change and acting on decisions without having the total picture

  • Advanced systems aptitude to be able to adapt, comprehend, and utilize multiple systems, including specific experience with MORIS, Lawson, Macros, Smartview, WISE, or MS Access
  • Store Operations Experience

Work environment:

  • Work involves continuous interaction with co-workers in fast-paced environment
  • Work includes sitting for prolonged periods, along with repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Work requires frequent use of the telephone and computer
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 1 – 5 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 10 pounds occasionally
