Full-time night shift at three 12 hour shifts per week and alternating weekends.

An addiction nurse is unique, in that the treatment provided is both psychological and physical.  Addiction Nurses are skilled in pain management and assist with the physical treatment and medication, educate patients and families on the dangers of addiction, and provide psychological support for those who are struggling with addiction.  Substance abuse nurses monitor and assess the detoxification process, participate in patient interventions, and administer medications to help patients manage their addiction.  Patients getting through an addiction can be a slow and painful process.  It can be very challenging nursing job.  As an addiction nurse we must act to enhance the dignity, compassion and integrity of patients by applying strategies to promote self esteem that encourage patients to use coping skills through all process phases.

Provides medical support for rehabilitation detox patients suffering from symptoms associated with the detox process-including any pre-existing medical and or psych conditions.

Responsible for ensuring each patient has  the following services: Nursing, Laboratory, and Patient Activities.

Conducts Comprehensive NURSING ASSESSMENTS that include: medical history, drug history, physical, social,   psychological health, detox scoring,  and implement detoxification plans under the supervision of head nurse and other medical support staff that ensures the safety and well-being of the patient.

Provides direct nursing care that maintains the standards of nursing practice and policies and procedures within the facility.

Performs quality care that includes enhancing the dignity and integrity of patients by applying strategies to promote self-esteem and promote holistic health.

Responsible for assessing the nursing detox needs of patients in acute withdrawal and be able to score them, planning interventions and evaluating outcomes of the care. As well as documenting detox assessments each shift.

Provides Direct nursing care and supervises the MHT.

Maintain nursing supplies.

Responsible for collaborating and communicating with supervisory nurse, providers, other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.

Utilizes time management skills.Monitors for  S/S of  withdrawal, be able to recognize and manage symptoms and medicate accordingly.  Ability to act in emergencies for example, drug and alcohol overdose, seizures and DTs.

Knowledge of all types of drugs --as well as administering medications-be able to monitor patients for cheeking or potentially sneaking medications in & out, fabricating and manipulate symptoms to get meds. Willingness to enforce boundaries and rules.

Participates in appropriate meetings and committees.

Responsible for maintaining accurate & timely documentation of clients on a daily basis.

Skill to identify medical and social/emotional needs of the client during the treatment procedure.

Interface with patient, patient’s family and other member of the  treatment team, therapist and case management as needed.

Collaborate with utilization review team to provide necessary clinical information for insurance certification.

Qualifications:

  • Compassionate and empathetic communication style. A Detox nurse requires nurses to go a bit further, so this type of nursing job is not suited to all personalities.

  • Excellent time management skills along with communication skills.

  • Delivery of pain management support.

  • Detail-oriented and motivated worker.

  • Trained in the provision of social and emotional support.

  • Skilled demonstration knowledge of alcohol and addictive drugs and their effect on the family. along with treatment plan.

  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology.

Education, Experience, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Associate's degree or higher required. Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.

  • Current license as registered nurse in state of campus operation.

  • FirstAid/CPR certificate

  • Knowledge of nature of addiction recovery and clinical intervention which leads to greatest outcomes and creates conditions for highest probability of sustained recovery preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in drug and alcohol treatment preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Working knowledge of EMR system preferred

  • Maintain active CPR/First aide certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually.  Ability to stand, walk and reach frequently. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally.

  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

  • Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine.  Distance vision required to drive an automobile, if driving is a requirement of the job.

  • Work environment is indoors and climate controlled.  Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

  • Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers, households with TVs and dishwashers, and driving light traffic.
