Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•To provide a safe, pleasant environment and attentive child care with an emphasis on the children’s emotional, physical, and social needs.
•To effectively deal with children who have a particularly difficult time adjusting to their new surroundings.
•To maintain safety and supervision of all children.
•To assure compliance of the policies and procedures of the EEC and the rules and regulations of the Colorado Department of Human 
Services.
•To perform daily child care duties as set forth by the Supervisor, including but not limited to feeding, changing diapers and all other basic needs of the children.
•To formulate and implement daily, weekly and monthly educational activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers.
•Assisting the Director/ Supervisor in keeping accurate attendance records for each child.
•Train and help orient attendants in child care.       
Other Duties:

A.        Maintain a friendly, professional and congenial attitude while effectively caring for the children and working with parents, guests, and other employees.

B.        Report and correct, if possible any unsafe conditions which may affect employee or public safety.

C.        Set a positive example for EEC employees.

D.        Work throughout the child care as assigned.

E.         Perform other duties as directed.

This job description is an overview of the scope of responsibilities for the Early Childhood Teacher and is not intended to be an inclusive list of job tasks and expectations. Education/Experience:

A.          Early Childhood Teacher

 

                                                 An EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER assigned responsibility for a single group of children and working under the supervision of a director must be at least 18 years of age and must meet at least one of the following qualifications: 

 

                                                   a.       A Bachelor's or Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.  Effective May 31, 2010, the major study area of the degree must be in one of the following areas: 

                                                                        1) Early childhood education

                                                                        2) Elementary education

                                                                        3) Special education

                                                                        4) Family and child development

                                                                        5) Child Psychology

 

 b.        Effective May 31, 2010, a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major area of study in any area other than those listed at Section 7.702.54, A, 1, must have two (2) three-credit early childhood education college courses with one course being either introduction to early childhood education or guidance strategies, and at least six (6) months (910) hours of satisfactory experience. 

 

                                                   c.       A two (2)-year college degree with a major study area early childhood education from a regionally accredited college or university plus at least six (6) months (910) hours of satisfactory experience. 

 

                                                   d.      Twelve semester hours in college‑level credits from a regionally accredited college or university in the area of early childhood education, plus nine (9) months (1,395 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children under six (6) years of age who are not related to the individual.

 

                                               

                                                                                     e.      will complete within the first 6 months of  employment two(2) three-semester hour college courses from a regionally accredited college or university with one of the courses being infant/toddler development or the department approved Expanding Quality in Infant and Toddler Development

Colorado Department of Social Service Requirements         

Early Education Center employees will be required to supply and/or obtain the following:

            1.         First Aid Certification

            2.         Infant/Child CPR certification

            3.         Record of immunizations

            4.         Physical examination

            5.         Fingerprints

            6.         Central Registry Background check

            7.         Three written references

            8.         Emergency contact information

 

Special Skills/Equipment:

  1. Knowledge of basic computers skills including Microsoft Office
  2. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and willingness to drive a 15 passenger van
  3. Strong demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  4. Must possess exemplary organizational skills
  5. Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling or lifting up to 40 pounds
