The Location Supervisor: Ski and Snowboard School is responsible for creating a welcoming first and last impression. This individual will be responsible for the overall quality of the guest and employee experience for their assigned base location. Location Supervisors manage the day-to-day operations of their assigned location. This includes being responsible for ensuring instructors are providing a safe and exciting experience for guests who are learning to ski or board. This is achieved through the focus on problem solving, quality control, guest relations, product sales, staff performance development, communication, teamwork, administrative duties and self-development. 

 

 

This individual will be responsible for managing program issues relating to instructor and lesson scheduling, guest complaints, and system efficiency. He or she will oversee daily instructor lineup. This position will work with the Ski and Snowboard School Director, the Ski and Snowboard School Managers, other Supervisors, and administrative personnel to ensure all payroll, workers compensation, incident reports, staffing levels, safety procedures, disciplinary procedures, hiring and separating procedures and all other administrative functions are managed efficiently and timely. 

 

This position is a 6-month, full-time seasonal position beginning about the first of October. Our peak business hours are evenings, holidays and weekends. The Location Supervisor must be available to work during peak times.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily operations in assigned location, including filling front-line employee positions as necessary, especially during non-peak periods.
  • Lead and manage guest service coordinators, instructors and support staff at assigned location. 
  • Responsible for hiring, training, developing, scheduling, reviewing and disciplinary action for ski and snowboard school employees at assigned location.
  • Work with the Ski and Snowboard School Director and the Ski and Snowboard School Manager to support and achieve quality targets for the success of the overall Ski and Snowboard School.
  • Implements and holds staff accountable to Ski and Snowboard School policies and procedures.
  • Implements and holds staff accountable to Vail and Afton Alps policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively with other Location Supervisors to ensure effective use of shared guest service and instructor resources.
  • Resolves and documents Guest complaints. Accommodates special requests, when appropriate.
  • Ensure instructors are knowledgeable about our product lines; company policies and procedures; and work schedules.
  • Communicate with other cross-functional teams to create an environment of support and trust that will benefit staff and guests.
  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance of ski and snowboard school supplies and program tools for inside and outside set up.
  • Adhere to and model Vail Resorts’ mission, vision and values.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally to staff and guests.  Respond and engage with customer suggestions, complaints and recognition.
  • Create and maintain a productive, safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • A passion for snow sports
  • College degree - Preferred
  • PSIA/AASI certification (required) – Level 2 – Preferred
  • Experience as an Ski & Snowboard School Instructor
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a guest service function
  • RPOS experience – Preferred
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather in a winter environment
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Must be 18 years of age as of December 1, 2017
  • Must have excellent guest service and communication skills
  • Must work well in a team
  • Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in English
  • Experienced and/or conversational in another language – Preferred
  • Flexible schedule required during peak times throughout the year.  Must be willing to work evenings, holidays and weekends.
