Directly Supervises: Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Clerks, Certified Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Cashiers

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for training and development of all levels, of Pharmacy Technicians. Assists in all aspects of pharmacy operations (as legally permissible), as directed by the Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist including customer service, operations, supervision, housekeeping, third party administration, inventory control, sales, company policies, legal compliance, cash handling (as applicable), pharmacy opening/closing and standards for all the above.

PURPOSE:
• To assist the Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist in the operation of the pharmacy and supervision and training of pharmacy personnel.

Note: Responsible for performing the functions of the certified pharmacy technician job description plus the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Personnel: Trains, coaches, guides, coordinates and directs all pharmacy support personnel and Pharmacy Interns (both graduate and undergraduate) as requested by Pharmacy Management; educates Pharmacy Interns on the role of technicians in our pharmacy operation; provides informal feedback on daily performance of pharmacy support personnel, as well as providing feedback to the Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist for performance appraisals; assists with the development of a schedule for pharmacy support staff; assigns work tasks per management direction. Contributes to the total scheduling process with input concerning seasonal variations, daily pharmacy demands, etc.

2. Communications/Customer Service: Directs pharmacy support staff to provide customers with quality service; follow through, as legally allowable; sets service standards and serves as role model for store crew and all pharmacy personnel; answers questions appropriately (and within legal limitations); demonstrates working knowledge of company customer service standards; applies company customer service standards to interactions with the health care community.

3. Operations/Workflow: Assists Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist in coordinating workflow functions and workstations to insure adequate pharmacy coverage and customer service levels; prioritizes workflow activities. Acts as pharmacy computer expert as well as primary trainer; monitors computer usage and efficiency for other pharmacy support staff; performs and follows defined workflow procedures as legally allowable; proficient with all workstations (within legal limits); maintains inventory control procedures; orders product from appropriate sources; assists with preparation of physical inventory; assists in pharmacy returns, regularly reviews pharmacy stock for recalled, outdated and overstocked product, processes non-control drug orders, including check in when required.

4. Economics/Marketing: Has working knowledge of and helps with weekly entries in pharmacy financial notebook as directed by Pharmacy Manager/Head Pharmacist; can utilize the economic reports and understand the general relationship of the numbers reported; aware of competitive pricing and completes pricing surveys; follows through with pricing/out-of-stock problems; participates in special marketing projects/in-store promotions.

5. Third Party: Serves as third party expert; trains, coordinates and directs pharmacy staff in all aspects of third party plan administration (including, but not limited to, review of new third party information with pharmacy staff, maintenance of plan integrity, research of all bad debt (rejected claims), and partial payment problems, and collection procedures), execution on OWS procedures.

6. Training: Always has a positive attitude and an enthusiastic view of the training process and is capable of training all new pharmacy personnel. Actively participates in training of all pharmacy personnel. Advises store and/or pharmacy management of training needs of pharmacy clerks and pharmacy technicians. Uses training guides and other company produced training materials. Capable of participating in the District and Divisional Training Programs for new technicians and pharmacists.

7. Special Products: Participates in special projects and programs within the store, District and Division.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Must meet all state laws and regulations.
• Ability to readily adapt to changes in schedules and work priorities.
• Successfully pass technician specialist examination.
• Must have a minimum one-year Albertson’s pharmacy experience.
• Must have AE or better rating on most recent performance appraisal.
