Responsibilities: Performs delegated activities to assist in the care of the patients in the operating room/procedure rooms. Under the supervision of a RN and in collaboration with the surgeon, the technologist functions primarily in the scrub role. Is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient. Applies and enforces principles of aseptic technique and adapts to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. Works flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and may have on-call responsibilities in a six-week work schedule.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited and/or hospital approved surgical technology program. High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.

Must have at least two years experience as a Surgical Technologist.

Additional Qualifications: Recent inpatient operating room experience with laparoscopic, robotics and solid organ transplant experience preferred.

Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

License or Certification: Certification in Surgical Technology from either the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date and maintained thereafter.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $21.77 per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 80

Schedule Details: Three 12-hour shifts weekly, 0645-1915, days to be determined.

The HB Surgical Tech works primarily in the hepatobiliary service but also works in other specialty services as needed.

Weekend Schedule: Varies with call participation. Mayo Clinic Arizona has two transplant teams on call during off-shifts hours (evenings, nights, weekends and holidays). The number of required call shifts varies depending on currently staffing, with Transplant Team STs taking an average of 12-15 call shifts per six-week period. Generous on-call, call, and post-call rest period compensation.
