About this job

The Cardiovascular Technologist / Advanced Radiological Technologist must possess the knowledge, skill and ability necessary to provide professional services related to the proper diagnosis and subsequent treatment of heart, peripheral vascular diseases. Must be knowledgeable in angiographic imaging principles, angiography equipment, procedural techniques, advanced 3D/post procedure reconstruction procedures at workstations, and radiation safety

Provides care based on the age-related needs of the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient with consideration of their development/psychosocial needs, environmental safety, education needs, communication style, and level of understanding

Principal Accountabilities:

Accurately performs all duties related to imaging protocols in CCL/Interventional, accurately monitors, records, and processes all hemodynamic and physiological data.

* Maintains and consistently demonstrates competence in performing patient education, positioning, technique setting, restraints, and transportation for angiographic/cardiac cath procedures as required for adult or geriatric patients.

* Consistently follows departmental protocols for CCL/interventional angiography, whether procedures will be performed on stationary/fixed department or mobile equipment.

* Understands and can complete advanced post-acquisition techniques on a variety of multi-vendor workstations.

* Considers the limitations of the physically disadvantaged and the geriatric patient in selecting positions to achieve both interventional procedures

* Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiology equipment and radiation safety

* Consistently follows departmental protocols for fluoroscopic procedures as required

* Demonstrates proper care and maintenance of all radiologic equipment used in the department to ensure all equipment is properly maintained.

* Accurately performs all special-procedures exams, as well as all cardiovascular procedures

* Demonstrates thorough knowledge of technology.

* Consistently selects correct catheters, guidewires, and/or special equipment used in all interventional/cardiovascular cases.

* Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of hemodynamic pressure recordings.

* Monitors, records, and processes all physiological data to provide qualitative hemodynamic information for evaluation by physicians.

* Accurately calculates all valve areas.

* Quickly detects any cardiac arrhythmia and communicates to appropriate individuals.

* Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse development in patients, such as cardiac arrest.

Accurately performs the scrub function in the Cath/Angio suites.

* Competently performs as a scrub person per surgical guidelines, following strict adherence to aseptic technique.

* Maintains supplies, tray setup, and catheter equipment for cardiovascular or special-procedure cases.

* Competently performs patient draping, scrubbing in and assisting physician with all modalities in the cath/angio suite.

* Demonstrates competency in suturing sheaths or catheters securely in place or obtaining hemostasis via manual compression or compression clamp per physician discretion.

* Assists in transporting patient to recovery area when needed.

* Assists and performs in other related areas as needed to assure continuity and coverage in various modalities in Cath/Angio lab

Operates all appropriate department equipment in a safe and skillful manner.

* Operates physiological data-recording system with complete competency

* Performs and documents quality-control measures of the cardiac cath/interventional procedures, and equipment to ensure a quality study and to provide patient personnel and physician safety.

* Maintains personal familiarity with, understanding about, operation of, and safe performance of all departmental clinical equipment.

* Operates the pressure-injection system safely.

* Activates the defibrillator safely and competently and is comfortable and safe in defibrillation of a patient under doctor's or nurse's direction.

* Demonstrates thorough knowledge and training in setting up all equipment.

* Follows concepts of ALARA program for limited radiation exposure; strictly follows radiation safety regulation and department radiation safety procedures; i.e., barriers, protective devices monitoring fluoroscopy time for patients, physicians, and peers

Contributes to overall department hospital efficiency through teamwork and personal productivity and ongoing monitoring of resources.

* Helps with daily stocking of work assignment areas, making sure supplies are put away.

* Consistently leaves procedure area clean, restocked, and ready for next procedure.

* Willingly participates in on-call schedule on a rotational basis.

* Accurately bills all procedures and completes in a timely fashion.

Maintains technical and professional development for competency.

* Personally assures certification by the State of California Radiologic Technology, fluoroscopy, and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist is current.

* Maintains current ACLS.

* Maintains current CPR.

* Participates in ongoing seminars that are relevant and pertinent to job.

* Actively reads magazines and literature as they apply to work.

* Willingly shares knowledge and clinical and/or technical expertise with other staff members at staff meetings or on a one-on-one basis.

Education:

* Graduate of a JRCERT accredited educational program in radiography.

* ARRT Registered Technologist, {RT(R)} in good standing.

* State Licensure (CRT) is required.

* ARRT Vascular-Interventional Technology (VI) and/or Cardiac-Interventional Technology (CI) and/or Computed Tomography (CT) is preferred.

* CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider required (ACLS within 6 months of hire).

* Flouroscopy license required (within 6 months of hire).

Experience:

* A thorough understanding of cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring as typically acquired in zero -two years preferred.

* Thorough understanding of cross-sectional anatomy as typically acquired in zero -two years preferred.

* Solid base of knowledge with computer workstations and advanced imaging techniques as typically acquired in zero -two years preferred.

* Minimum of three (3) years angiography and /or cardiac cath lab experience preferred

* Previous cardiac catheterization experience as typically acquired in zero -two years preferred

* Level II trauma experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

* Substantial knowledge of cardiac cath procedures; operation and care of radiologic equipment and diagnostic imaging; electronic imaging and image transfer, storage, and retrieval; mathematics through algebra level; basic chemistry; bacteriology; electrical circuitry; radiation safety; and aseptic technique.

* Basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology preferred

* Demonstrated ability in the use of vascular catheter instrumentation and radiologic imaging.

* Awareness of operating room technique.

* Understanding of both basic and advanced computer skills and trouble shooting.
