What you will need:

Education/Experience/Certifications:

* Associate Degree of Nursing or Bachelors of Science in Nursing (preferred) from accredited school of nursing

* Non BSN nurses must start a BSN program within two years of hire date and complete within 5 years (tuition assistance available)

* Current Illinois RN license

* BLS CPR (American Heart Association)

* Minimum 2 years experience as a Registered Nurse preffarbly within a Surgical Services department

Interpersonal/Technical Skills:

* Ability to respond quickly to patient needs and work at fast pace

* Good computer skills

* Adequate time management and organizational skills

* Familiarity with patient care equipment

* Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing

* Certain positions may need to take call

Physical/Work environment:

* Ability to transport objects, patients, and equipment

* Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster

* Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick

* Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients

* Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit

* Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis

What you will do:

The Registered Nurse (RN) Liaison establishes and provides effective communication across the continuum of Surgical Services as it relates to the status of patients and their planned procedure. This position will enhance overall communication with patients, their families, the nursing and physician care team as well as the staff of the Surgery Lounge. This position will serve as a vital link to establish a relationship with patient families and patient care givers which will improve overall unit operations and patient/family satisfaction through communication regarding wait times and delays. This position will also serve as an ambassador for all customer service behaviors within the division of Surgical Services.
