The scheduled shift for this position is full time nights - 6:30pm-7am. Three 12 hour shifts per week with weekend and holiday rotation.

If you are not currently employed by Mercy Hospital St. Louis as a PCA/PCT or Behavioral Health Tech, you must be available to complete a full-time 2 week training class held Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30 pm, immediately upon hire. Upon successful completion of the class component, 100 hours of clinical department training are also required.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient. Assists in unit operational support tasks or duties.

* Qualification 1: High school diploma, G.E.D. and/or current co-worker of Mercy. Successful completion of Basic Skills I course within one month of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

Safety/Risk Management:a. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices sound infection control techniques.b. Assesses safety needs and provides for a safe environment: Fall Precautions; Restraint Management; Patient Identification; Unit/Departmental Specific Policiesc. Labels and properly secures guest's/patient's personal property.d. Adheres to hospital wide safety regulations.e. Performs equipment safety checks and reports faulty equipment/initiates repair.f. Follows policy/procedure for completion of incident reports.g. Follows confidentiality policy/procedure.h. Complies with patient rights/regulations.

Coordination of Services:a. Assists in the orientation of new/float personnel.b. Acquires adequate supplies to perform daily care.c. Acquires, sets up, and properly disposes of equipment for special procedures.d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgement in use of time. e. Participates in QI activities that ensure and enhance quality of patient care.Primary Aspects:a. Administers daily hygiene measures.b. Performs routines daily activities: ambulation, passes trays, snacks, water, feeds patients, turns andpositions patients, observes for skin breakdown.c. Gathers and records patient data.d. Performs Sure Step Pro and/or Neonatal Metabolic Screens.e. Observes changes or unusual occurrences in patient condition and reports them immediately to the appropriate personnel.f. Provides patients and their families with explanation of care and psychological support under the direction of the nurse. g. Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients and their belongings.h. Applies knowledge of cost effectiveness without jeopardizing patient outcome.i. Assures all patient charges/credits are entered appropriately.j. Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and change.Communication Management:a. Accepts delegation of tasks.b. Communicates with other members of the HCT to optimize the care of the patient.Technology:a. Performs unit specific computer functions.b. Performs clerical duties as needed (i.e., answers phones, monitors lights).
