About The Organization:

This position will provide the highest level of technical expertise to perform work in server support. As a Server Administrator you'll manage the server-based support and projects for a range of internal NBC Universal customers from across the business and spanning the globe. As one of our Server Administrators, you will work with clients, technicians, designers and project managers to support the hardware and OS platforms within the NBCU enterprise. You will work with corresponding infrastructure teams to help create and ensure all necessary documentation is in place for new services involving Virtual and/or Physical servers.

Job Purpose:

The Server Administrator will manage the support of servers and supporting infrastructure for internal customers. They will also provide support for project based changes for all supported applications. This role will also be responsible for supporting key technology initiatives including but not limited to hardware refresh, operating system refresh, server consolidation, server support, and capacity planning.

Essential Functions:

Partner with vendors to bring these environments to the highest availability standards.

Communicate to Application Owners and Infrastructure teams on changes, outages and provide bi-weekly updates on overall stability of the environments you support.

Develop and maintain strategic engagements with Application Development Teams to provide end-to-end delivery of appropriate infrastructure solutions.

Perform additional duties associated with operational management of these systems as require.

Validate server builds performed by the delivery team meet requirements and conform to business and security requirements.

Act as customer liaison for all server platform specific technical issues and questions related to infrastructure.

Escalate with vendors as needed.

Apply OS updates to RHEL based Linux and Solaris Servers, and address any issues that arise as the result of these updates.

Work with cross functional teams to implement, update & troubleshoot environments.

Support of Linux/Solaris technologies and process lifecycles in enterprise systems, specifically Red Hat Linux and Sun Solaris including Containers/Zones/LDOMS

UNIX troubleshooting commands in regards to disk I/O, CPU usage, load, and network connections.

Must have verifiable background experience in as well as the

Ability to translate a strategy into a tactical, transformational work plan that would feed into all phases of lifecycle from requirements to implementation.Basic Qualifications:

B.S. degree in an Information Technology related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience required.

Minimum 8 years of experience supporting Sun/Oracle Solaris in troubleshooting, patching and upgrading Solaris running on M & T series hardware.

Minimum 5 years of experience supporting and troubleshooting Red Hat Enterprise Linux based distributions.

Minimum 5 years of experience in planning, documenting, validating and testing technical solutions in a global enterprise setting.

Minimum 5 years of experience engineering and implementing business process focused on service management.

Minimum 5 years managing vendor relationships and working with professional engagements.

Candidate must have significant exposure to storage platforms (NetApp, EMC, Hitachi, IBM, etc.). Technical certifications and designations highly preferred.

Strong understanding of security challenges and best practices.

Understanding of subnet masks, and familiarity working with servers sitting behind load balancers and/or firewalls.
