JTE Youth Program Assistant

Job Summary

The Youth Program Assistant for Seattle Goodwill's Youth program will work jointly with the Youth Program Coordinator in the planning and implementation of daily events and activities for youth, ages 15-17, in college and career preparation while prompting environmental stewardship, 21st century skills and soft skills.

Essential Functions:

Implement curriculum. Oversee the classroom environment to support youth and classroom goals. Assist the instructor in providing a quality training experience. Encourage and support youth participation in the training experience. Assist in facilitating and supervising youth program group meetings, workshops and special projects. Assist the instructor in developing lesson plans based on the youth goals. Supervise breakfast and lunch. Drive youth to field trips and provide off-site supervision. Participate in program meetings with instructors and partner with organization staff. Assist in organizing and supervising field trips, such as outdoor activities in wilderness settings. Upholds safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; assist in safety training of employees; reports any potential hazards or accidents. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience: Minimum two years experience working with at-risk youth. Experience working in a training or education environment preferred. Must have experience working with multi-cultural youth who may have been exposed to poverty, gang violence, and substance abuse. Ability to provide student mentoring and coaching, as well as small group and individualized instruction. Must have the ability to provide quality student mentoring and coaching, as well as small group and individualized instruction. Specific Skills/Knowledge/Licenses: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint). Must have valid WA State driver's license, ability to drive large vehicles (12-15-passenger vans) and clean driving record.

Essential Physical Abilities:

Able to safely lift/push/pull up to 10 lbs. for short distances. Perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms. Able to traverse a wide variety of physical indoor and outdoor environments without assistance including uneven surfaces and stairs. Ability to work in cramped areas/small spaces. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing, including those who have limited English skills, large groups and small groups, and individuals. Able to use standard office equipment without assistance. Able to maintain reliable attendance.

Working Conditions:

Classroom and outdoor environment. Moderate noise level. Must have reliable transportation. This job may require travel to offsite meetings and events. Must be able to work a flexible schedule; some overnight and weekends required.
