Cargill Protein is a leader at delivering primary processed and value added proteins into the Foodservice, Retail and Manufacturing market channels. It operates several food processing facilities located in the US and Canada. Our customers in Foodservice are comprised of large national restaurant chain operators, contract feeding companies and both national and regional foodservice distributors. Cargill Protein Group is looking for a dynamic individual to fill a R&D Innovation Fresh Retail Manager in Wichita, Ks. This positions will be responsible for the broad, overall R&D Innovation strategy for Cargill Protein Group Retail Channel focused on fresh proteins including developing technology solutions, customer focused innovation solutions, manage the innovation portfolio and providing business and customer partnership, value creation and optimization.

Research & Development Leadership, and budget. This position will lead a team of Food Scientist that are dedicated to strategic focus areas for the Cargill Protein Group Retail Channel.

Accountabilities:

30% Champions and coordinates technology innovation growth initiatives for the Retail Channel focus on fresh protein by partnering with business leads, marketing, insights and with external technology partners to identify emerging trends and needs for customer focused products, process, solutions and services.

* Provides direct coordination and development of the innovation pipeline/portfolio with unique/ ground breaking ideas for the conversion of scientific knowledge. Provides coordination to the growth of distinctive products, processes, solutions and services offerings across multiple and/or targeted product lines.

* Serves as Strategic/ Tactical enabler to the development of customer focus innovation products, processes, solutions and services to ensure compliance with IP laws, regulations and company policies. Provides leadership to establish procedures and tools to manage the intellectual assets.

* Drives customer focus and technical relationship plans for key major accounts and takes direct responsibility for customer satisfaction and business retention.

Accountability: Technology Strategy/ Leadership

25% Innovating, advising, and implementing quality technology that enables the strategic business plan including research, development, applications, technical services, intellectual assets and regulatory activities

* Contributes to the definition and implementation of Cargill Technology's global, long term vision and strategic direction including medium to short-range objectives, policies and strategy for a core technology component with global or regional resources.

* Conducting trials, developing products/processes & measuring results (including iterative testing and refinement of methodology)

* Provides technology leadership to the Business Units in developing operational/tactical technology plans and coordinating their execution.

* Represents Cargill in relevant external organizations (universities, R&D Industry forums, technology committees, etc.) to appropriately influence key external experts and opinion leaders as well as anticipate emerging technology trends and needs.

Accountability: Talent Management

40% Provides R&D leadership, coaching and manages customer focus innovation scientists, including coaching Cargill's core values.

* Accountable for performance management, talent development, succession planning and engagement through direct reports for the Technology members.

Accountability: Resources and Budget Management

5% Manages resources dedicated to customer focus innovation to efficiently and effectively deliver all technology services, solutions, products and processes.

Leverages organization capabilities of cross-functional internal and external resources to identify opportunities for joint development across businesses/multi departmental teams and to connect beyond area of expertise.

Requirements:

* A bachelor's of science degree or 8 years equivalent experience in food/meat science is required.

* Thorough understanding of project and portfolio management.

* Demonstrated experience in management of teams and leading teams.

* This position requires a high level of proficiency using Microsoft Office tools and business reporting systems.

* Strong organizational and accuracy skills.

* Experience working with cross-functional teams (vendors, associations, multi BU's, sales, ops, FSQR).

Preferred Qualifications

* Advanced degree (Masters or higher) is preferred

* Food and/or meat scientist experience in new product development

* Commercialization of new products, and/or research

* Previous new product innovation strategy development is preferred.
