Job Description:

3M is seeking an Extrusion ReplicationTechnician for the 3D Processing and Precision Replication (3D&PR) Department in Corporate Research Process Laboratory (CRPL) located in Woodbury, Minnesota. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Anticipated Start Date: Early September 2017

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will have experience and interest working on laboratory scale, pilot scale and manufacturing scale processes and be able to execute experiments that relate key process variables to product responses under the direction of a technical team leader. Specific experience in polymer processing, extrusion, film manufacturing, web handling, and/or injection molding is highly desirable.

This position will provide the candidate with opportunities to utilize their mechanical and experimental skills to combine a variety of material sets with specialized processing technology to create new and improved 3M products. Well-developed communication skills are required as interfacing with a variety of functional areas will be a prominent component of this job.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

* Leading experiment set-up and running of multiple polymer processing lines including:

* Learning new machine functions and operation: roll/die set up, barrel/extruder set up, controls, procedures, and safety items.

* Precision equipment set-up

* Participate in experiment planning, running, data acquisition and observation

* Participate in clean-up of systems and equipment between subsequent runs

* Documenting run conditions accurately

* Ability to lift pails and move drums.

* Participating in equipment modification and maintenance:

* Preventive maintenance activities

* Troubleshooting and basic repairs

* Maintain lab, equipment, and area cleanliness for safe operation

* Documenting all maintenance, equipment changes, and repairs

* Initiating and follow-up with shop work orders

* Participating in sample measurements and analysis

* Maintaining inventory of spare parts and materials

* Actively participating in team meetings and safety reviews

* Completing independent projects as needed

* Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

* High school diploma/GED or higher from an accredited institution

* Minimum of one (1) year combined laboratory, manufacturing and/or pilot plant environment experience

* Minimum of one (1) year experience with Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

* Associates/Two Year Technical degree or higher from an accredited institution

* Strong technical and/or mechanical background

* Self-starter with hands-on approach to problem solving

* Minimum three (3) years of experience handling polymers, chemicals, and/or materials in a testing or laboratory environment

* Hands on experience assembling and operating laboratory, pilot, or manufacturing-scale process equipment

* Intermediate computer knowledge

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Ability to work well both in multi-disciplinary teams and independently
