Currently under construction in Iowa City, the Hilton Garden Inn and Vue Rooftop Restaurant & Bar are scheduled to open later this year. Hilton Garden Inn is a 10-time winner of the JD Powers Award for customer service delivered in the upscale segment of the hotel industry. This Hilton Garden Inn will be 143 room property and the Vue Rooftop will feature indoor and outdoor space as one of the leading rooftop restaurant experiences in the country. Cooks will be responsible for providing food to this venue as well as the banquet space that can accommodate up to 220 guests.
We have primarily full time openings, but will also consider part time staff who have previous high volume restaurant cooking experience. Positions will work a mixture of morning and evening shifts (1st and 2nd shifts). The Line Cooks will be responsible for accurately and efficiently cooking meats, fish, vegetables, appetizers, and other hot food products as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking.
Essential duties and responsibilities for this position would include but are not limited to:
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and some holidays
- Must be on time and at work when scheduled, and in proper uniform
- Project a professional image in all aspects of work performance
- Must be able to maintain composure during periods of high stress
- Recognize and follow standards for meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy products and grains, including proper storage of these items
- Monitor and control maintenance/sanitation of the kitchen and equipment
- Adhere to all safety protocols including handing and transportation of foods and knife work
- Maintain effective utilization of leftovers and control of waste
- Knowledge of common food allergens and their substitutes
- Cook using a range of cooking methods including poaching, braising, roasting, charbroiling, sautéing, grilling, frying and baking
- Produce from scratch menu quality food in appropriate portion size, cut and quantity
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented in accordance with appropriate recipes, presentations and with guest orders
- Report any incidents of guest dissatisfaction or unusual matters of significance to a supervisor so corrective measures may be taken
- Practice safe work habits and comply with sanitary, safety, security, and emergency procedures
- Write shift reports including reports on any incidents of theft, accidents or injuries when assigned
- Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned
Our Line Cooks will play a key role in the launching of this upscale property and as such, we have some flexibility in regards to the compensation of this critical position depending on experience.
