Shift: Variable

Position Summary

Performs forensic examinations for the collection and preservation of evidence for sexual assault cases. Provides followup

care and is available to participate in the judicial process. Provides expert testimony and witnessing.

Minimum Education Requirements

Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing;

BSN Preferred

Successful completion of SANE program designated by CCASAl within 30 days of hire

Minimum Experience Requirements

3 years' experience in acute care setting

Advanced assessment skills

License/Certifications

Current Colorado RN License

Current BLS certification required from American Heart Association

Position Duties (Essential Functions)

Patient Care

Properly maintains equipment, stocks supplies, ensure a clean,

safe work environment. Performs complete assessment of patient

condition to determine medical intervention. Performs complete

forensic examination and collection of evidence. Adheres to

established protocols and standing orders. Responds to page

within 10 minutes and arrives within 45 minutes of call.

Quality

Collaborates with members of SART to ensure appropriate followup

care. Assess patient/family learning style and appropriately

teach and document understanding. Available to participate on

judicial process.

Documentation

Accurately documents all findings of examination. Thorough and

confidential maintenance of patient record.

Professionalism

Maintains professional rapport with all members of Sexual Assault

Response Team (SART). Maintains contact with program for 3

years after severing employment and responds to any and all

subpoenas. Belongs to International Association of Forensic

Nurses (IAFN), which is the oversight organization for SANE

training. Participates in continuing education of at least 20 CEUs

from forensic nursing every 2 years. May receive credits towards

this from other educational opportunities (i.e., autopsies, crime

lab, etc.).

Physical Requirements

Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs constantly.
