Clinical Care Operations

Banner Desert Medical Center is looking for a Per Diem Nursing Assistant for their Clinical Care Operations - Med/Surg Float team. This team is comprised of highly qualified, highly skilled individuals that can cover staffing needs across the Banner Desert campus. Individuals in this role are expected to be flexible, open to learn & growth, and open to changes.

This is a full-time, 36 hours/week, opportunity working Nights (6P-6:30A) including alternating weekends and holidays.

About Clinical Care Operations:

Clinical Care Operations is the hub of patient management for the campus, including: bed assignment, unit staffing (scheduling, balancing, casual labor utilization), house supervision, emergency preparedness (code events and internal disasters), patient transports, dispatch, and data analysis. Several employee groups report to this department, including clinical positions such as RN House Senior Managers, SWAT RNs, and Resource Team (RNs, NAs, PCAs, HUCs, and BHTs) plus non-clinical roles such as Office Supervisor, Transport Supervisor, Dispatchers, Placement Reps, and Information Specialists.

Job Summary

This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. This position is responsible for on-going patient data collection and documentation in the medical record; provides a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.

Essential Functions

Provides assistance in activities of daily living and completes necessary tasks to promote patient health, including assisting patients with basic hygiene needs, maintaining an optimum level of mobility and assisting patients with nutritional intake, as needed.

Collects patient specimens and data, including vital signs, input/output and other delegated measurements in accordance with unit/facility policy and standards of care. Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care. Assists in the transportation of patient specimens.

Recognizes and reports abnormalities and/or changes in the patients health status and responses to treatment to a licensed professional. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for which care is provided.

Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice; procedures may include blood draws, foley catheter removal, EKGs, and EKG monitoring. Provides necessary supplies, support and assistance to medical staff and patients for unit specific procedures, under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.

Maintains a clean, orderly and well-stocked environment.

May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

Current BLS certification. In Arizona: Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) in state of practice is required for new hires and transfers. All incumbents must obtain either the CNA or LNA by 12/31/16 (currently excludes Tucson). All existing incumbents must also obtain the LNA by the earliest of either their renewal date or 12/31/18 (includes an extended deadline to 12/31/19 for Tucson only). Outside of Arizona: Current Certified Nursing Assistant in state of practice is required.

Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy and keyboarding skills is required.

Depending on department assignment, receive a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity is required. Successful completion of either a unit approved basic electrocardiogram interpretation course or electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on the job training is also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent healthcare experience preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
