Position Title Boiler Plant Floor Operator III

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Boiler Plant Floor Operator (BPO) III for a pharmaceutical complex in Groton, CT. These positions work a rotating schedule that provides 24/7 coverage.

These facility maintenance technicians provide an intermediate level of expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on the central power plant equipment and facilities. Equipment includes, but is not limited to: feed water systems, industrial chillers and related controls systems, and associated distributed utilities.

Essential Functions:

+ Demonstrates competencies in raw water, softener, treated water, condensate, boilers, turbine generators, air systems, boiler water chemistries, cooling towers, and chillwater maintenance functions.

+ Executes and ensures compliance with safety programs related to the boiler plant.

+ Maintains up-to-date knowledge of client safety procedures related to the boiler plant.

+ Understands and troubleshoots mechanical equipment through visual inspections, control system readings, gauges and instruments.

+ Understands and complies with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.

+ Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve complex problems, and provide solutions to plant problems.

+ Understands predictive maintenance methods and implements processes to identify and repair equipment prior to failures occurring.

+ Analyzes problems, recommends solutions, and initiates repairs.

+ Read and interpret work from drawings, written work orders, sketches, blueprints, and technical manuals.

+ Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

+ Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.

+ Safely performs functions of the position including following proper company safety guidelines, such as lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work procedures, and wearing PPE as required.

+ Demonstrates attention to detail, good comprehensive and analytical skills, and excellent organizational skills.

+ Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

+ Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

1. High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

2. Three years of experience as a facility maintenance mechanic in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Current EPA Universal CFC certification, or the ability obtain within 6 months of employment.

4. Current Connecticut OE2 license, or the ability to obtain within 3 years of employment.

+ Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

+ This position may require a valid Driver's License.

+ This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

+ This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client's location.

+ This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

+ Requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk extensively throughout the facility during shift.

+ Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, twist, crawl, and climb repetitive during shift.

+ Requires the ability to regularly kneel, work in cramped or confined spaces, or assume uncomfortable or tiring body positions repetitive for shift.

+ Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

+ Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

+ Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, stairs, or scaffolding at least 10 times during shift.

+ Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 100 lbs.

+ Requires the ability to work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions, as needed.

+ Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

+ Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

+ Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

+ Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

+ Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

+ Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Associate's degree or equivalent trade school diploma in industrial electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or a related skilled trade.

2. Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.

3. Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.

4. Experience with the following equipment: feed water systems, water softener, condensate systems, natural gas and fuel oil fired steam boilers, turbine, air compressors and chemical water treatment.

5. Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.

6. Experience working with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

7. Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

9. Current Connecticut S1, S2, D1, D2 or OE2 license.

Other Attributes:

+ May be required to work overtime, variable shifts and 24-hour/7 days a week on-call as needed.

+ May be required to work holidays and weekends.
