Electronic Mechanic -- New Century, Kansas

Background & Purpose of the Job:

Unilever is actively seeking an Electronic Maintenance Technician to join our factory located in New Century, Kansas. The Electronic Maintenance Technician will be focused on maintaining and fixing machinery that processes margarine and spreads. This includes both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairing of processing and packaging equipment. Candidates must be flexible on hours and shifts. Overtime hours will be scheduled during periods of increased production, or, to cover absences and vacation.

Who You Are & What You'll Do:

* Repair, replace, adjust, and align components of machinery and equipment.

* Clean and lubricate parts, equipment, and machinery.

* Weld to repair broken metal parts.

* Perform routine preventative maintenance and repair to manufacturing equipment as needed.

* Observe electrical and mechanical devices and systems to locate causes of trouble.

* Repair and replace defective parts.

* Service and repair factory facility equipment such as air compressors, heat exchangers, boilers and ammonia refrigeration equipment.

* Adjust and test machinery.

* Perform repairs such as chains, sprockets, bearings, and belts. Rebuild pneumatic cylinders, valves, pumps, gearboxes and other drive train components.

* Stick and tig welding repair.

* Troubleshooting and networking PLC's (Allen Bradley and Siemens).

* Basic electrical construction including installing conduit.

* Troubleshooting and calibrating AC and DC drives.

* Reading electrical blue prints and schematics.

* Working off PID (proportional integral derivative controller) drawings.

* Troubleshooting ladder and PLC logic.

* Troubleshooting and solving issues related to electrical or mechanical problems.

* Working with BCD (binary coded decimal).

* Application of resistors and understanding of their color coding.

What You'll Need To Succeed:

* You're a dot connector: Ability to read and understand electrical and equipment manuals, pneumatic schematics, and mechanical drawings.

* You're a born leader: Knowledge, understanding, and application of safe work practices including lock-out and tag-out, confined space entry, as well as safety practices relevant to mechanical skill sets.

* You're a strategy guru: Experience in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

* You're a teacher: Excellent communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers.

* A minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience with up to 480V 3-phase.

* Must have HS Diploma, or GED equivalent, along with three semesters of college level industrial electronics education.

* Must have knowledge of machines and tools to include their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

* Must have experience with 3 phase electrical, and, with AC and DC controls.

* Experience troubleshooting equipment and determining cause(s) of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

* Ability to make decisions and solve problems.

* Ability to work under pressure to fix equipment quickly; breakdowns usually stop or slow down production.

* Ability to work in a self-directed fashion.

* As part of the hiring process, qualified candidates will be asked to complete two assessments: Kansas Work Keys/NCRC Assessment and a Mechanical Skills test.
