REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County in its mission to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to incorporate the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness, and Excellence in all aspects of their work. The incumbent works in the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County assigned to the Community Health and Performance Management Division with responsibility in the School Health Services Program; under the general supervision of the Health Services Manager A - SES, position 64085032.

This position will be required to perform duties at multiple sites within the county to include, but not limited to, Florida Department of Health in Volusia County locations, School District of Volusia County locations, as well as sites established/co-located within the community in conjunction with community partners. The employee is expected to arrive at assigned location (daily) on time at the provided start time. Mileage will not be paid for travel to different service site locations within the county.

Assist the School District of Volusia County as assigned in order to meet contract requirements:

Develop health presentations and obtain approval from the Coordinator of Health Services with the School District of Volusia County.

Conduct health education presentations in public and private schools within Volusia County.

Support the Specialist-Health and Wellness, in initiating, organizing and implementing the charter school health screenings and ensure data is reported to the state.

Work collaboratively with the school based nursing supervisor of the contracted Comprehensive Health schools to ensure that student immunization records are up to date in Cross Point and Florida Shots.

Function as a health education resource person to school faculty and staff and provide nursing consultation as needed

Provide health related in-service programs to school personnel when appropriate.

Attend School Health Advisory Council meetings and other community meetings as assigned to identify resources and assist in the development to expand, enhance and initiate new school health programs based on identified needs.

School Health Clinic Monitoring as assigned:

Conduct routine monitoring visits to all Volusia County public school health clinics and implement corrective action plans to address deficiencies if necessary.

Conduct follow-up monitoring on any suspected or reported school health issues in any school.

Review, evaluate and validate statistical data for the School Health program.

Ensure Program Standards and Guidelines and other applicable program standards are met for both the Florida Department of Health

Volusia and the School District of Volusia County.

Collect DH Form 684 from all private schools within Volusia County, track data for compliance and submit the Annual Report of Compliance Compulsory Immunization, District Report to the FDOH Immunization Section by the due date each year.

School Clinic duties as assigned:

Functions as the backup nurse to the currently staffed contracted Comprehensive Health - School Health clinics.

Oversee the school clinic, including providing nursing care and physician ordered treatments, procedures and mediations to designated students.

Coordinate and maintain effective and productive operations of the designated school clinic, including clinic supplies.

Identify, evaluate and assess health problems and concerns of the students.

Provide, maintain, and interpret student health records and maintain appropriate and accurate nursing documentation of all nursing care, treatments, procedures, and medications.

Review student physicals, Immunizations, clinic cards, and other health information.

Perform routine diagnostic tests, including vital signs and body measurements, as needed.

Coordinate and facilitate health screenings, referrals and follow-up of students.

Coordinate necessary medical interventions as needed.

Manage all health problem referrals.

Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care to students.

Prepare and provide instruction/education to students, parents, staff and administration on a variety of health messages including, but not limited to, immunizations, healthy weight, physical activity, nutrition, asthma, diabetes, STDs, etc.

Effectively communicate and implement school health services according to the established school health plan, state guidelines, policies and procedures.

Consistently model cooperation and teamwork through professionalism and work toward a school-wide atmosphere of wellness conducive to learning and highest student achievement.

Promote safety measures and programs in the school to assure a safe and healthy environment, including adherence to OSHA guidelines for prevention of exposure to blood borne pathogens, use of universal precautions, and communicable disease surveillance and education to prevent the spread of infections. When appropriate provide education on the need for follow-up with exposure(s).

Clinical duties as assigned:

Conducts client interviews, performs assessment and provides education and counseling.as indicated.

Issuance of prescribed medications/birth control ECP per FDOH and DOH-Volusia Nurse Issuance guidelines.

Administration of injectable medications/birth control/immunizations as prescribed or in accordance with established procedures.

Performs phlebotomy and routine laboratory tests, including pregnancy, rapid Hepatitis C and rapid HIV.

Review of all appropriate electronic health records for accuracy and completion.

Assists providers, as needed.

Assists in the preparation of exam rooms and work areas including cleaning of equipment and restocking of all work area supplies.

Other duties as assigned:

Conduct health education presentations to the public throughout Volusia County to include but not limited to FACT Fairs, Back to school orientations and county libraries.

Completes timesheet, EARS, and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner.

Performs other related duties, including Emergency Duty.

Must have a valid Florida nursing license.

School health experience preferred. Experience in providing health education presentations preferred.
