About this job

Bike Mechanics at the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) will assume primary responsibility for the mechanical upkeep, repair, and assembly of the USNWC rental bike fleet as well as inventory management and resupply in the shop. Duties are also to include the training and mentorship of a staff of Bike Technicians, along with the basic shared duties of all Trail Center staff – serving Trail Center guests as a bike mechanic, rental attendant, and retail point-of-sale operator. Bike Mechanic is a seasonal position and reports to the Trail Center Program Coordinator.

-Maintain the USNWC bike fleet performing advanced mechanical tasks, repairs, diagnostics, etc.
-Assemble new bikes, and repair and refurbish retired bikes to be sold
-Manage the supply and tool inventory of the Trail Center
-Greet and assist the guest in bike rental and issuance – properly sizing and fitting rental bikes to guests
-Answer guest questions and give appropriate direction
-Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
-Operate a point-of-sale system
-Candidate must be available to work weekends and holidays as required

Requirements

Job Requirements
-Bike mechanic experience in a reputable bicycle shop or rental facility
-Bike shop leadership experience is a plus
-Retail experience
-Experience riding mountain bikes
-Attention to detail, good decision making skills, and safety consciousness
-Good oral communication skills and ability to speak in front of large and small groups
-Ability to take direction and work without direct supervision
-You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations

Physical Requirements
-Able to stand up for at least 4 hours per shift
-Able to bend, lean, and kneel on a regular basis
-Must be able to lift 30 pounds
-Must be able to work in an outdoor environment where climate constantly changes
