Responsibilities: Core Responsibilities Include:

Donor Recruitment: Telephone recruitment of volunteer blood donors, scheduling targeted number of donor appointments per day and enroll donors in the blood assurance program. Donor Evaluation and Assessment: Understanding and applying extensive donor criteria which includes medical history, travel locations and lifestyle questions, and regulations of numerous accrediting agencies to ensure patient/donor confidentiality and ensuring a safe blood supply for transfusion. Following SOP (standard operating procedure) for 1) ID (identification) of donors, 2) registration of donors, performing point of care testing and related quality controls.

Donor Collection: Following SOP in using aseptic technique to collect unit of blood or blood components, monitoring both the equipment and donors and providing care to donors or patients who have mild, moderate, or severe adverse reactions. Supporting Activities: Proficient use of donor software system, proficient use and QC of equipment and products, ordering and maintaining work unit supplies. Demonstrates excellence in customer service and public relations to promote a positive, professional image of the Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Center. Demonstrates a commitment to Mayo's culture of safety (pay attention to detail, communicate clearly, have a questioning and receptive attitude, hand-off effectively, support each other. Donor Service Technicians must successfully complete a 6-month training course and pass competency evaluations. This training includes classroom instruction, written examinations, and on-the-job training.

Qualifications: High School Diploma. Minimum of one year of telemarketing, call center, or customer service experience. Six months vascular access experience (including arterial blood collections, IV placement, venipuncture, or phlebotomy experience) or equivalent blood donor experience required.

Additional Qualifications: Completion of a medical terminology course preferred.

License or Certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $xx.xx per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 80

Schedule Details: Primarily day shifts from 8:30-5:00 pm or 9:00-5:30 Monday through Friday. In addition there will be 3 to 4 shifts until 8:00 pm per year.
