Job Summary:

The Head and Neck Institute is currently seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant in our outpatient Head and Neck Main Campus practice. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of ENT experience, but this is not necessary. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification. The APP will be expected to see adult head and neck patients in a busy, high volume practice in collaboration with the head and neck surgeons. Certifications may include: adult, family/gerontology and PA certification.Provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of healthcare settings as a nationally certified licensed healthcare provider. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification. Emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Certifications may include: acute care, adult, family, gerontology, psych and mental health, neonatology, pediatrics and women's health.

Responsibilities:

* Assesses health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history.

* Performs a physical exam based upon the age and patient history as per the Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician.

* Identifies significant health and medical risk factors.

* Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory test and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.

* Develops a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data.

* In collaboration with the physician, develops a treatment plan along with the patient and significant others.

* Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, law and Cleveland Clinic privileges.

* May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing and CCF policy.

* Develops patient education plan. Participates in medical team rounds.

* Collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.

* Performs admission history and physical; documents progress notes, prepares discharge summaries as required.

* Assists with and facilitates discharge planning.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education:

* Effective 05/01/2014: MSN required upon hire or within 5 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APN licensed role to an APN licensed role.

Certifications:

* Currently Licensed as Registered Nurse (RN) in applicable state, national certification as nurse practitioner (CNP) by nationally accredited organization, current certificate of authority by applicable state Board of Nursing, certificate to prescribe (CTP) preferred.

* Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required based upon work setting.

Complexity of Work:

* Excellent analytical and decision making skills are required.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to work as a member of a multi disciplinary team.

Work Experience:

* Two years clinical nursing experience preferred.

* Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment and diagnosis.

* Demonstrated ability to utilize the electronic medical record.

Physical Requirements:

* Typical physical demands include the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.

* Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations.

* Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.

* May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

* Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
